Hay everyone,
I don't have really experience with developing and creating web sites.
What is my intention to do?
I have my own domain, which I’m hosting at bluehost.
I want to create my own online store and start with selling products. I want to install ZEN CART. I already do that with fantastico, but I'm not satisfy with the classic look of the online store.

And here are the questions:

1. How I can arrange that online shop will be open immediately when I will type www.mydomain.com? (now my shop is installed in www.mydomain.com/shop)

2. How to upload a new version of ZEN Cart and a new template to my bluehost account? Are there any manuals, how to do it?

3. I have a catalogue of more than 4000 products with prices, text and pictures. Is there any chance to upload catalogue into ZEN CART store or I need to enter every single product into the system one by one?

4. Is it possible to translate total content of the online store to local language? Is this possible, and how to do that?

I think this will be enough questions for today,;)

Thanks in advance for your help and best regards
Saso

Sounds like a job for Zen Cart!

1. You can move it to the root directory by editing the /includes/configure.php and /admin/includes/configure.php

More at Wiki:

http://http://www.zen-cart.com/wiki/index.php/Server_Admin_-_Change_Folders

2. Get the latest version at zen-cart.com. Latest version is 1.3.0.2 it has a self install.

3. There is a feature called EZ Populate that will do this for you.

4. Zen Cart does support other languages, but which one do you want?

Overall, the zen cart support forum is an excellent place to go and make friends.

4000 products to put in the store? Well I don't know about the Zen Cart but CubeCart isn't the way to go if you have more than a few items to sell. I installed CubeCart and tried to put in some products just to see how it worked. About every other product the admin console locked up and timed out. There is no way you can use Cube Cart with 100 products unless they are items of multiple numbers of the same thing and don't often need to update, remove or add products.

I've spent a little time looking at Zen and I'm not sure it's the way to go either if you're going to be listing that many items. I'm no programmer but I see nightmare written all over it.

My guess is intergrating an Access DataBase into a Fontpage site might be the best route for a big store.........oh it sounds like headaches no matter how you look at it.

If anyone knows of a store with at least 500 items running ZEN and their EZ Populate, send me their address so I can watch their store for a while and see how it all works as their stock changes. Heck, send me a dozen such stores so I can see if it really works or not!

Zen is a spin-off of osCommerce... I have never used Zen, but I have osC stores handling thousands of products with no problem whatsoever.
