Hello,

I have very recently joined Bluehost and need a little help.

A site of mine is uploaded and online, I have a subfolder members which is protected and users sign in to access. Now what I would like to do is say have a phbb forum within the members area so that it can only be reached and used by members who sign into the protected area and would then sign up to the forum.

How can I using the fantastico script panel install in the members folder which is public_html/members

I hope I have explained this OK

Thankyou

I think Fantastico gives you the option to install any of the program available into a subfolder of your choice. So just make sure that it goes into public_html/blah/members.

Hi and thank you for your reply, I have tried it and it will not let me put it in a sub directory, I have to name it say forum and it places it in the root directory. I suppose I can then move it from there into the protected members area?

That might be possible - I just don't know what other files are installed during the process and if they need to point to the subdirectory of your choice. Worst case would be to try it and see if it works.

Sorry, guess that I can't be of more help on this. :(

Can I just recommend that you install your forum manually. That way you can put it in whatever area you like without Fantastico's permission. Also I had a rather bad time with Fantastico an phpBB it's just better to do it manually.

On a side note if you are new to phpBB you may want to consider SMF. SMF puts less strain on the servers here and phpBB is coming out with version 3 pretty soon so you might find yourself doing a lot of updating with phpBB.

Hello and thanks for the advice!

A manual instal, I'm bound to go wrong!

However probably a good exercise and I can always delete and try again.
