Has anyone else experienced this problem?

I would like my tumblr account to point to use a custom domain name (i.e. www.mydomain.com goes to mydomain.tumblr.com)

(1) I reset my A-Record on Bluehost to 72.32.231.8
(2) I selected the "use custom domain" on my tumblr account to mydomain.com.

About 60% of the time if I enter mydomain.com I end up on my tumblr page (good); the other 40% of the time I end up on the Bluehost generic landing page (the one with the smug blond girl with the backpack scowling at you).

I assume this is a problem on Bluehost's end. Has anyone else experienced this and discovered a resolution? Should I try a different provider?

Thanks in advance -

I have my tumblr blog (http://notes.japan-photo.info/) (besides my Wordpress blog) running on a BH hosted subdomain and it works perfectly.

Did "Test your Domain" on Tumblr work?
If yes, you'll just have to wait a few hours.

If not, you did something wrong...

I did the domain test on Tumblr and it worked.

It's been like this for a few weeks.

I know I didn't do "something" wrong.

That's bad.
I have no idea if the a BH or a Tumblr problem...

I would suggest that you contact Bluehost Support and have them examine your settings.

Right.

Just in point of clarification of the other thread I started and you locked, my computer is most certainly virus free / trojan / spyware free and, further, I change my Bluehost password every 2 weeks to a randomized, 16-character string, so clearly that's not the issue.

I would be curious to know if others have experienced non-owned domains becoming parked on their Bluehost account and whether this was traced back to a registry/clerical error on Bluehost's part or other reasons? Unfortunately, if another user did experience this issue I guess I'll never know.

In response to your original issue, it sounds like you created another A Record rather than modifying the one that was already there for your domain. Thus when a computer tries to resolve that domain it picks the IP that it has the shortest route to.

Remove the a record that is still pointing to your Bluehost account, wait about 4 hours, and you should be getting Tumblr every time.

in response to your other issue:
Regardless of your computer's security, it's still a good idea to contact support and have them look at the notes in your account to see who/what is adding those domains. If it's not yours, then someone has access to your account and they're getting your 16 char random full keyspace password to do it.

You're free to use the search feature in the bar at the top to see if other users have posted about randomly assigned domains. If it's happening on a regular basis (it's not), or a similar issue has been posted here before then you will find it there.

Thanks very much for this helpful suggestion - I'll try that!

I did but my inquiry seemed unique which, of course, doesn't mean my issue is unique, just that no one has asked the question. Though, I suppose if these threads are being shut-down/"closed" as quickly as they're being started it would make sense why I didn't find any.

I don't know but I may just have had the same issue as zatelit! When I go and change my A record, I find that there are many of them! cpanel, whm, webmail and some more! Do i have to delete them all and just leave the Tumblr one? Or it may create issue with bluehost domain working? Thanks a lot for your help!
