Is the 99.9% uptime guarantee for every month or a year?

To the best of my knowledge BlueHost doesn't have any up time guarantee - at least they never used to so if they have one now it is a recent change.Where did you see the guarantee mentioned?

BlueHost has always worked on keeping the servers up as much of the time as possible. They also provide a pro rata refund at any time if you decide to leave. So if you end up with too much down time you can leave easily without it costing you anything.

I doubt many using BlueHost would want a 99.9% up time guarantee. I am currently getting about 99.96% up time for my site so the guarantee would allow them to let my site go down more than twice as much as it has been.

Bluehost offers a 99.9% Network Uptime Guarantee, which is possible by way of heavy redundancy through an increasingly diverse network of peering/ transit lines. The guarantee refers to network connectivity-- not server availability. Obviously, Bluehost strives to provide exceptional performance and stability on customer servers, however the server that hosts your user account is not redundant, which means that should there be a significant issue on the server that hosts your account, you may experience some temporary downtime until resolved. You can always check the status of your server via serverstatus.bluehost.com or by simply contacting support. That said, Bluehost does not offer an SLA that provides 99.9% server uptime.
