My laptop has a few programs on it i still want to use, and was a relatively nice/fast laptop even though it was a few years old. long story short, my son got a hold of it, and now the screen is completely broken. how do i go about either getting a new screen/fixing this/or whatever i will need to do to get the laptop going again.

I had one replaced on a two-year-old HP laptop I really liked a few years ago and it ended up being $320 total for parts and labor. Do a search for computer repair shops in your area and get a few quotes for the job.

That being said, it may be worth it to spend a few dollars more for a new laptop. A reputable computer retailer can transfer your files/programs/etc.. from your old laptop, even with a busted screen. Some do this for a small fee while others do it free of charge.
