New Account.
Have used Fantastico to install WordPress 2.03. Fantastico alerts me that /2.04 is available and I should update. It does not (at least clearly enough for me) tell me how to do that. Help??
Perhaps for a different forum or category, but I also need to import all files from another WP blog. I was of the opinion Fantastico could/would do that for me, but again how? And if I need to do it another way, HOW?
Thanks.

Good questions.
Here's some stuff to look at before someone who knows comes along:

Thanks. I have followed your advice and in so doing have made some sense of the procedures I need to follow.
What I have also learned is that I MIGHT have installed WP 2.0.4 since I see a lot of references to it at the bottom of pages, etc. Obviously this would eliminate the need to upgrade for the moment.
Unlike pages I'm familiar with, I can't click on HELP > ABOUT and get the version number.
How would I confirm that on my page now?

AND of course I'm still looking for guidance in uploading the files from my former WP blog so I have continuity in posts, comments, etc.
Thanks again.

hey Jim,
you can do a backup from WP. i believe it's under options.
or you can go to the mySQL panel in cpanel and backup your database
then you can use phpmyadmin and mysql databases to restore it.
yeah, i did it once before and there wasnt a whole lot of documentation. so i kinda winged it and somehow it worked.

Here's what I got from combining several posts on the WordPress Forums. From the WP.com blog (that's the one on their server), EXPORT your files to an .xml file and save it locally.
Then if necessary, depending on your version of WP.org blog (the one you use on your own server), download the XML importer (http://www.technosailor.com/wordpress-to-wordpress-import)and install it in that blog.
Activate as necessary and under the wp.org blog IMPORT will be an option to import the .xml file from wordpress.
That's how I remember it:). I got it from several sources and it worked for me. I hope I haven't left any thing out.
Thanks everyone for your help.

I'm told by the WP Forum folks that the number appearing at the bottom of the admin pages is in fact the version number, so I don't have to upgrade . . . YET:D .
