View Full Version : IP question
I wanted to add a Team speak plugin to may website so that people could see who is online and could connect to the server through the website. But I found out that you have to pay for your own IP for this plugin to work, is this correct and if so where do I go to pay for the IP. Thank you for your help.

If you contact customer support you can get a dedicated IP for your account. I believe the cost is $30. There was a thread already on this subject I believe. Remember to do a search before posting. ;)

I imagine that you do not control the TeamSpeak server.
But, if you do and can change the QueryPort from 51234 (default) to port 80 and the plugin can be told what port to use, then you do not need a dedicated IP.
On the Shared IP you may make outgoing connections to port 80 & 443, but no others.

Bluehost does not like you doing that. This is because its unfair on a shared IP for you to be able to do it but no one else. If you do this they will most likely shut down the teamspeak server and/or suspend your account.

Taking in what he has posted in his message we should be able to make certain assumptions.
His teamspeak server is hosted elsewhere, if he was running his Teamspeak server on Bluehost he should have had to get SSH access to install it. SSH access requires a dedicated IP. So if he had a dedicated IP, this wouldn't be an issue.
His question pertained to a plugin and thus I was answering that for the usage of the plugin it is not absolutely necessary to purchase a dedicated IP as he can change the query port of the server.
Granted, it may not be possible for him to change his teamspeak queryport, in which case then a dedicated IP would be necessary for the plugin to work.

Bluehost doesn't like you using port 80 because nobody else would be able to? Do you have any idea what you're talking about?

I assumed that Mazzic was saying to try and use port 80 for a TS server. If he used port 80 on his shared IP for TS no one else would be able to and that would be unfair and Bluehost does not allow that. I later discovered that they were talking about a plugin just to show your server’s status. Yes I know what I am talking about do you?
