Does anyone know whether there are plans to upgrade to version 5? There are some nice features that I'd like to use.

The problem is that mysql5 breaks the hell out of some applications, and cpanel does not yet support it. Once cpanel supports it, we may try having a mysql5 machine, but we do not, unfortunately.

So would you be kind enough to explain to a near-newbie how to use that from PHP?
Thanks,

Hmm. Thanks for nothing!
The correct answer is:
'Ask Bluehost support to move your account to a server that has MySQL 5.0 installed.'

Well apparently you don't know how to speak very well.
The correct question is:
'How can I use MySQL 5 with my account.'

I'm using a PHP application (PHPGedView) that seems to be having problems, and my informant says, "Problems using MySQL 4.x, must switch to 5.x" and sure enough, digging into the installation manual, MySQL 5.0+ is required.
Some earlier posts say Bluehost will switch servers from one using MySQL 4.x to 5.x as requested and without charge, but it seems that there may be a 24 -72 hours downtime plus additional complications. What's the current story? Is there a way of avoiding or minimizing the downtime cost and other complications, if any?
TIA
Henry

BlueHost are running some servers with PHP4 and others with PHP5. To upgrade your site from one to the other they have to move your site from one server to the other. As this means your site is moving to a different IP address it takes some time for all the references to the domain to recognise the change.

Stephen:
Thanks for your response. It confirms some older information I found. I was hoping there was a bit more detail about the time it takes to accomplish and the potential complications.
I fully appreciate the fact that the new IP address will take some time to propagate. If that propagation is by far the limiting factor, and there are really no potential complications --like data loss or necessity to reconfigure-- I'm OK with making the change, I guess. In my recent experience, new IP address propagation has generally been much shorter than the expected time, and I'll just hope my luck will hold.
Meanwhile, I'm working the other side of the problem to verify that the change is actually necessary before I throw the switch.
Thanks,
Henry
