i'm getting that alot.
the error log says:
PHP Warning: Cannot modify header information - headers already sent by (output started at /home/xxx/public_html/xxx/index.php:2) in Unknown on line 0

first i thought that it was phpnuke, but i'm also getting 500 Internal Server Error on another domain with a different script.

Hi zodiac, I have had the same problem! (when I try to ban one IP address via CP), try to open .htaccess from /public_html and see if there is added some data/info and delete it?

I've had 500 errors on and off for the past week. I submitted a ticket, but all I got was the canned "clean up your code" reply. The php error log is empty, but the main error log is full of all kinds of stuff, the most common being:

"Premature end of script headers: "

and

"mod_rewrite: maximum number of internal redirects reached. Assuming configuration error. Use 'RewriteOptions MaxRedirects' to increase the limit if neccessary."

Whatever those mean.

the site doesn't have a .htaccess, but the main domain does.its not in use so i put a blank one in and all it did is changed the error to "an error occurred while processing this directive"

i think it might have to do with how many people are on the site.
the stats shows how many people in the past hour.
i just went though my site without error.it shows 35 people online.
often it's 100-150 and i'll see the error alot.
the error log shows an error every few minutes.

Mine doesn't seem to have anything to do with the number of users. It's just totally random. It hasn't happened today, but it's only a matter of time.

I don't have many users (one of the domain hosts a forum). Maybe 10-15 on at a time.

What box are you on? I'm on 52.

I'm on live chat right now and there is no resolve. All of my php scripts are not working. I even installed the phpmychat from the control panel as a test to make sure it wasn't on my end ...nothing shows ...and several errors in the log.

My entire site is powered by php and has been down all day. The problems have been intermittant since 10/3.

The html pages work but not the shtml pages.

I will update this post if I find out what is going on.

Ok after 2 hours in chat... they fixed it.
The first tech disappeared on me so I connected again.
I'm irritated.

They said something on my home page was causing the problem.
A process was not releasing.
I think at some point in all of this I did check my processes and nothing was running... hmmm.

He said to check my error logs. I pasted every error in the chat before that when he asked what errors I was getting.
My error logs do not show anything in reference to specific pages.

He said that I needed to optimize my scripts.
I asked if he could tell me specifics - no he couldn't.

The scripts running are primarily those available through bluehost fantastico.
Why would they offer scripts that are inadequate?

I was replying to him and after I said that the scripts came from bluehost he said thank you and disconnected.

I don't believe it. I haven't had any trouble with the scripts before this.

Why would the shtml pages not work either?
Why wouldn't php sripts not connected to any database not work?

I'm happy it is fixed but I feel that if he is going to tell me it is on my end then I'd like to know what he saw that led him to believe that. He wouldn't tell me.

I like the call in support and I don't think I will be using chat for anything but general questions.

Another thing has come to light. PHPADMIN says the MYSQL server has been running for 3 days and that no "kill" processes have been done in that time. So does that count "kill" processes from tech support?

He said that I needed to optimize my scripts.
That's a "canned" response. Meaning it's something they tell everyone, because 95% of the time it's right. Unfortunately, this time we're dealing with that other 5%.

I don't believe it. I haven't had any trouble with the scripts before this.
Same here. I've had the same php scripts running on my website on two different hosts for the past 3-4 years with no changes. Why would they suddenly "go bad"?

He said to check my error logs. I pasted every error in the chat before that when he asked what errors I was getting.
My error logs do not show anything in reference to specific pages.
My PHP error logs are empty, and only the main error log contains anything. I pasted some of the main error log entries over at a developers forum (in the apache section) and they all told me that the errors were related to server configuration, and are nothing I have any control over.

I think the fact that many of us are having the problem is a clue that it's not a scripting issue. I'm not sure what server I'm on. How do you find that out?

In your control panel...look at your Shared Ip Address -- last set of numbers on the right.

phpmyadmin says the MySQL database is only 3 days old which happens to conincide with the issues I have been experiencing. Next time first thing I will do is check the processes running - if I can get into the control panel.

I like the telephone support much better. Both techs left me hanging for really long periods of time and one never returned. Both said it was my scripts. While this was going on, I enabled the phpmychat that is everyone's control panel and told him that it wasnt working. He had me paste my php.ini into that directory-- I think so he could look at it? Anyway the ini file has been handling things fine for months. The only way it could have gone south is for there to be changes on the server end.

Also I get that mod rewrite error in my error log but it disappears. I also got this one repeatedly
[06-Oct-2006 01:03:22] PHP Warning: shell_exec() has been disabled for security reasons in /home/mysite/public_html/500.php on line 12

and now I have a strange one that I told thme about

Failed loading /public_html/phpa/php_accelerator_1.3.3r2.so: /public_html/phpa/php_accelerator_1.3.3r2.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

I have no phpa directory.
It will disappear as it is in the first error section

The other errors stay for months. I get so few errors related to my scripts and it is usually minor errors right after install when I am tweaking paths etc that the errors show up then everything is fine after things are set up.

I ended up doing a dns lookup of my domain name, then a reverse lookup of the resulting IP. Box 87, though your way was easier. ;)

So far so good with me. It hasn't had the problem for a day or two now, which is good.

Various errors in the error log, but I think they're safe to ignore - for now.

We'll see how it goes.

My site's dead again today (500 error). Worked 15 min ago, but now it's dead. Wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

Checked the error log, and it was actually empty.

I'm getting 500 Server Errors for one of my add-on domain powered by Drupal, although the frontpage works, going any further results in a 500 error page.

Checking the error log, it says Premature end of script headers: /public_html/mysite/index.php

The tech support wasn't able to figure out the reason. I have not made any changes to the .htaccess file or anything else in the last few weeks, and this only started a few days ago.

Any suggestions on what may be going would be greatly appreciated!
