This is my first post, and I'm here because we purchased our bluehost this past summer. Upon a recommendation, we are TYING (very unsuccessfully I might add) to incorporate Joomla! for our web sites. I understand that its template driven, but, if one doesn't understand HOW to edit the templates, then big deal?
I've already GONE to their forums, and I am completely lost. Trust me, I'm really not dumb - but, I am sorely confused.
Anyone have any EASY answers and instructions?
thank you,
Laura B. from Beckstradingpost.

What is it exactly that you don't understand? Unless you really want to go with IN-DEPTH template manipulation, you don't really need to understand any of the coding associated with it. Everything can be controlled with the administration panel.

that is what I thought also - except I cannot figure out how to change the banners - text is no big deal - maybe its just so new to me I really just don't get it?? Sorta irritating.

My suggestion is: Choose a nice template that fits your need as accurately as possible. Look where the logo is located (is it only text or graphics), be sure there's enough room to include your desired modules (left/right sidebars, top menus whatever), is there a module position for a banner, etc, etc.
If you have found a template that fits your needs you just need to change the logo and background graphics or colours. It's much harder and time consuming to rearrange a complete template.
A logo can be easily replaced with your own picture. Banners are usually controlled from the banners component in the Joomla backend.
There are also many tutorials out there to get you started working with Joomla. Here's one for example: http://www.netshinesoftware.com/joomla-tutorial.html
