Hi,
I really am what everyone on this forum calls a Newbie?Looking at all of the answers to various questions here makes me feel so dense, the jargon is mind boggling, and answers to my tickets are not giving me what I needie a simple explanation on how to-- My problem--I am constructing a personal site and I have created a web page from within my genealogy program, and this is in the form of a FOLDER,containing more than two hundred htm files.I need the folder to be visable to visitors to my site, and am told I must NOT upload the FOLDER at all,but upload the files to public_html,I tried to do this and only succeeded in getting the FOLDER to upload, can someone explain in easy terms how to go about this?
Thanks.

I'll do my best.
OK, the best way to upload these is with FTP. There are lots of programmes out there that help to manage FTP uploading, but if you're just doing something simple like this, you might aswell just use Windows, as it's nice and easy.
Click on 'Start' -> 'Run' and type in "ftp.yourdomain.com" where "yourdomain.com" is your domain name. Click 'OK'. You should soon get an error that blabs on about anonymous FTP access, ignore it, just click 'OK'. Now right-click into the blank white space and choose 'Login As...'. The username and password should be identical to the ones you use to login to cPanel. So, once you've logged in, you should see some files and folders. Go into the folder "public_html". Now go to the folder on your hard drive that contains all these .htm files which you want to upload, select them all and click 'Edit' -> 'Copy'. Now go back to the other window (where you're viewing the inside of "public_html"), and click 'Edit' -> 'Paste'.
As long as none of those .htm files are called "index.htm", then when you log onto www.yourdomain.com you should just see a list of all those .htm files. I understand that's what you want, or maybe I've misread something.
Hope that helps.

You seem to be trying to make a family tree type web page ... If that is correct you can find some really basic free programs that will take your geccom file and create web pages that will all connect via the family lines.
Check Google for the free programs. they (the programs) will give you basic directions for uploading to the proper folders to make the pages work. Also try this link: www.cyndislist.com/software.htm

Thank you very much, for your efforts. However, what I need to establish is (a) must I upload files minus the folder? (b)If I do that will the page be visable to viewers? and (c)once I have opened these files in ftp manager how does one pinpoint all the files at once? uploading to public_html will show an awful lot of files,I presume this is the idea?Sorry about this,I seem to be full of questions.
