View Full Version : Can we run daemons on our account? (re: subversion)

I've been browsing through the TOS, and looking in the forums, and have noticed that things like TeamSpeak are allowed on bluehost.

I would like to use svnserve to publish a subversion repository I have installed on my account, unless it is possible to get bluehost to install mod_dav_svn in Apache, which I thought would be rather a tall request.

I notice in other threads that you have to have a dedicated IP, not a shared one if you want to run daemons, but I can't find any info on how we go about paying for a dedicated IP? Is this really necessary?

I don't really care what port I bind to if that is the issue.

Thanks in advance for any suggestions anyone has.

I realise that you don't support it, but I have it compiled and installed in my account, so I'm not explicitly asking for support with regard to subversion (although it would be nice to have)

My question isn't necessarily asking for subversion support specifically, more whether we are allowed to run daemons of any kind (without abusing the server) and if so, how do we go about this?

I've just noticed from this thread that CVS over SSH is allowed:

http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=134&highlight=subversion

which I would assume means that it is acceptable for us to use subversion over SSH ?
