They relaxed the rule awhile back instead of fixing the issue.... better check your domain if the speed limit warning is for your domain. I was contacting web admins and BH support when my site was being shared with a heavily compromised server. I must have contacted 30 people whom had sites unmaintained that were being abused. I'm convinced BH got tired of me complaining all the time and upped the limit.

I had a similiar problem on my mailing list using Mailman. It seems to use regular email channels. I have about 60 folks in my group and when the conversation gets hot and heavy it looks like I am sending out hundreds of messages. We have had days with 150 seperate messages x 60 and you can see the problem. DaDa mail just didn't work for our group style email list. A BBS would be the only other choice and we didn't want that. I contacted tech support, explained the issue, they checked to make sure I was correct about my mail use and upped my quota. Haven't had a problem since. It took me about three support sessions to get to the level tech I needed, and then for us to make sure I was working with the right product and for them to make the mods as I was truthful and had a problem.

I really hope that Bluehost is not restricting the advertised features. I have signed up for five years of hosting because I believe in Matt Heaton, I read his blog, and I have never had a problem that Bluehost couldn't find some way to make work and I have tried a little of everything. I have been online since 300 baud modems, run multi-line BBS systems, and busted more rules than I care to own up too. Bluehost has never given me any trouble and I respect the spirit of the guidelines. I can't imagine that you would have any troubles if you just work with them and not be a problem. I know it says unlimited storage, but we all know there is no such thing at 6-7 dollars a month. However, I have put 20 GBs on the system before for a change in systems, and then pulled it within the week and nobody jumped me. That's a lot of bandwidth and disk space for a virtual server. Work with them and they seem to be about as flexible as they can be. If you don't get the right answer the first time, try again. Not all techs have the power or experience to make allocations outside the real normal.

I didn't mean to turn this into a sermon, but the cats at Bluehost have been good to me for more than ten years. If you can screw it up, I have. If you can push their button, I have. In every case, we came to a solution that worked for me, while not doing major long term pain to their system. All by working with them to coming with better ways to do things.
I don't havea a problem working out new ways to do things, but we layed down our money believing that we would receive advertised capabilitities. I realize they can change the TOS anytime they like, but I really can't believe that Matt would betray his customers. If I am wrong, then it is a very sad day in the hosting business and it may be time to host using your own systems and abandon virtual hosts all together.

I've been on Bluehost for a long time and I can tell you, I have had the exact opposite experience.

In such cases, you need to contact customer support. This is a peer to peer forum, and you can't get specific info on issues with your account.

If you are so unhappy with Bluehost, why are you still hosting with them?

If I had experienced as many problems as you seem to have, I certainly would have switched hostong companies.

@Bob,

Pure laziness on my part.... :)

I am very fed up with the changes over the years and don't want any of my family and friends falling into the same trap. False advertizing by imposing undisclosed limits is criminal ;)
