Hi mates,

It happened twice that my web sites were frozen due to too much activities. My cpu processes exceeded the quota of 20 or 20% of capacity. Currently the script that I use may not be very efficient (I don't know, I am just guessing).

I am considering upgrading to the $19.95 per month plan (high cpu plan) or simply sign up for another $6.95 per month plan (since I have two busy web sites, I can just split them up into two accounts.)

What is your advice? For those who is using the high cpu plan, is the plan better?

I realised the server that host my web site is PHP4x. How can I use the PHP5? According to BlueHost web site, if I understand correctly, I can choose the php5 server.

I search for hosting reviews (i.e. searching for terms like "bluehost sucks", "hostgator sucks", "ipowerweb sucks", "godaddy sucks", etc.) So far, Bluehost is one of the cleaner in terms of search results of "sucks" terms. Other shared hosting services have more horror stories. :D Therefore I prefer to upgrade or sign up another account with Bluehost, instead of finding another web hosting service.

Will appreciate your help.

Thanks.

Bluehost is one of the cleaner in terms of search results of "sucks" terms.

LOL! That gave me a good laugh! ;)

I've got my own question to ask. As we all know, BlueHost's servers have quad processors. Is the 20% CPU limit 20% of the entire quad processor? Or, is it 20% of one of the CPUs (5% of the total quad processor power)?

Cheers,
Jamie

This is what the support wrote:

Also if a script is taking up more than 20% of the server resources at one time it will give you that error. It's also possible that a script on your account is not terminating properly.

I suppose it means 20% of the entire server CPU resources. But let's hear what other says. :-)

If the quote provided by monde is accurate, then getting a second BH account wouldn't help at all. You're not getting the CPU error because of what your account, in total, is doing, but because of what one script is doing. Having the "bad" script running under a second account would make no difference - it would still get the error if it consumed more than 20% of the server resources.

I was just giving the benefit of doubts that "may be my script is not running efficiently". I know it is not a "bad" script. It is a popular script widely used in the internet.

My logic of sign up for another BlueHost account is that, if at a time my few web sites takes up more than 20% capacity or 20 process in one account, the problem will be solved if I split my few web sites into two accounts (one for each web site). Because at that particular time one account would use 10% capacity or 10 processes and another would use 10% capacity or 10 process. Both accounts are well below the limit.

And I can restart my effort to increase traffic again.

Isn't this the case? (This is a genuine question. I know web hosting can be technically complicated.)

Early Out, thanks for the help. Though in this case the script is ok and I cannot modify the script. So modifying script is not a variable. It is the visitors, activities and capacity issue.

Thanks.

I think splitting is the way for you to go as it's the cheaper alternative. Some people have a single domain that is reaching the CPU limit. Those people would have to upgrade to the High CPU plan as they don't have the option of splitting... However, that's not the case with you.

Thanks Frusis, it seems getting another account is a better choice in this case.
