Ok, I know nothing of PHP but I need to run a PHP app on my site but I have to open the lines of PHP first (my terminology may be incorrect).

Can someone give me details of how to do this or direct me to the appropriate link?

Are you just trying to get a script to run? I'm not sure I follow what you're saying exactly. if you're just wanting to open the php file you can try pointing yorur browser to http://www.yourdoman.com/file_name_here.php
