So I must have been drunk when this happened, but I was *selected* to build a new website for my guild after they previewed some homework that I had done for school. I have *BASIC* html knowledge and the guild master and I decided to redo their site in PHP. This gives me a chance to learn about PHP. The only problem I'm running into right is getting the front end of the site up. I managed to get the forums up (http://www.lextalonisguild.com/forum) with a pretty nice template for the game, but I'm still having problems creating some front end site. A friend recommended PHP Nuke, but alas, I am having problems with that as well.

Im looking for some suggestions to finish the site and make my learning experience a bit less stressful.

The guild wants a site front end that carries some of the features of http://www.thedarkhalfguild.com.

They would like a calendar, image gallery, link to DKP, link to memberlist, etc. Another problem that I ran into and this may be because of lack of research was being able to link loot using [ item] [ /item] properties. I have a feeling I just need an addon for that.

If anyone out there has some suggestions, at the noobsauce design level, I would greatly appreciate it.

On a side note, yahoo is hosting the domain.

Thanks!

Try E107 http://e107.org/news.php It has everything you need and more and I think there is also a warcraft template, its easy to setup and is easy to use.;) by the way yahoo are awful hosts. Bluehost are much better.

Cool. I will check it out. Now, if I switch hosts, how hard (honestly) is it to transfer my data and maintain my url?

BE advised my noobsauce intelligence on webdesign and hosting is small.

Its a pain in the ass! You have to create backups from your old host down load them. Setup a account with the new host. Upload your data to the new host. Test it make sure its in tack and works. Then go to your register and change the dns server info. Then wait 24-72 hours before the site works again. It has to prorogate (update) for everyone.

So plan for it being a pain!

Its not at all difficult, contact support by live chat www.bluehost.com and they will tell you what you need to do and how they can help you do it, lots of people have done it here and will be able to offer you advice. By the way the Boss of Bluehost Mat is a big warcraft fan (and he "thinks" he is very good, I believe he issued a challenge to give out free hosting if you can beat him must double check that) :D

I moved to bluehost from another host. It IS a pain in the ass with down time involved. Some times you still have to do it though.

php nuke portal sysyem is probably the best way to go and integrate your forum into that, if you are having problems with nuke, just post over at thier site, they are a helpful community and am sure that you will get some good advice.

I suggest e107. It has an integrated forum and is the most customizable CMS system. Seriously just go to e107.org. It is the best CMS ever created. Seriously it is great. I love customizablility of everything.

E107 is made specifically for clans. It is even a sourceforge project.

i prefer IkonBoard but it is only if you know your **** cause it is so hard to install. It is CGI and therefore it is hard to install. But yea e107 is a sinch to install just upload it and go to the built in install page. Simple as pie. It has the forum preinstall and installling addons is also a sinch.
