Hey there, Not to sure that you remember my last question, well I am using microsoft publisher now, and it still isn't working, none of the images are showing up (They are on my pendrive but the .htm files aren't) it just comes up with the little red cross, plus now it won't let me go onto other pages using the navgation bar (Well table with links to documents)

If it is any help I could send you the document by a PM, if you want, just want to know how I can fix them.

Thank you in advance!

You have to make sure the image files are imported to your web through front page use insert from the menu and insert photo.. from file browse to your pen drive then choose the image you want. Save the web when finished and upload it through the File ..publish command.

Amazing. It must be FP on the brain for some.

It has been a while since I have used Publisher for webs. But it seems to me that it should have moved the pics to the server when you published.

Did you use the publish to web function in the Publisher? I have Publisher 2003 and just published a test and the pics display fine.

If you used another ftp program to publish with then you will have problems. And will have to manually upload your pics. You will also have to check the source code and see if the image source tag points to a folder or not. If so you will have to upload the pics to that folder.

In my test web the pics are placed in “index_files” folder.

Hope this helps.

thank you it did clear up some bits and pices hopfully but I just need to ask several questions to clear up all of it. I have been using the FTP Drag and Drop feature that is in the control panel that is already provided. I am actually useing Microsoft Publisher 2003 too. When I click publish it brings Up a werid format because it is flitered, do I upload that? And I have been using the tabs in publisher instead of doing a fresh one each time, is this where I might be going wrong too?

Thank you so much for your time.

You have fallen victim to the M$ trap. This is a prime example of M$’s compatibility issues. In this case it is not even compatible with itself. LOL

You have to pick one editor and stick with it for your website. And, which ever one you choose you need to use the publish option provided by that program. This is a very important newbee RULE. – Don’t break it again. ;)

NOW, the reason is FP uses server side extensions to control navigation and other things as well as how the site is published. So, to use FP, (and get the full benefits), you have to install FP extensions on your domain and once you do that, don’t and I mean DON’T ever publish using FTP to that directory; always use the HTTP method, or it will corrupt the Extensions. Publisher on the other hand uses FTP as the protocol for publishing. So, now you can see the reason for the conflict.

Let me venture to say this is probably project #1 and a good learning experience for you. So, with that in mind I say build your site and publish it with Publisher. It is simple to use, has great templates, and is excellent for small sites 1-5 pages.

Don’t give up on FP. I personally prefer it for most of my projects. And as an editing tool for non FP web pages. But be prepared to install and uninstall the extension when they go belly up on you. AND THEY WILL, but not normally. It will most likely be because you changed something in the FP published directory.

Now for your FP tip of the day – if you build a site and don’t use the FP navigation bots and structure or other bots that are dependant on extensions then you can publish using the ftp method and use either program (publisher or FP) to edit and publish without any problems; for the most part. As always with M$ you will have problems of one kind or another that you will have to work around.

A little side note on the subject of Frontpage - Microsoft is discontinuing the product, this month, I believe. Next year, they're coming out with something new and different to replace it (not just an updated version of FP).

How bout you try out NVU. And if you have a good pendrive go to portableapps.com and get the suite. Or if you have a tiny pendrive only get NVU. It is small, effective, easy for nubs, and has a nice FTP client.

If you want a super effective payware use dreamweaver. But since you arent doing anything too advanced or fancy just use NVU.

Or you could just learn HTML, the knowledge is far more portable than any program you suggested.

Well, as long as BH will keep the FP extensions in place for me I will be happy. :D

If not I guess it is back to Note pad, and the ftp client. That is what I started with and still use it for some work.

Anyway, ojdon are you up and running yet?

Given that the post in question dates from 2006, I suppose you're correct. But everyone has moved on - you're the only one still stuck in last year! ;)
