I was wondering why bluehost doesn't offer better webmail than Horde & Squirrel Mail? They both sux!
We need a more outlook style webmail software..

I think it would be great if someone here at bluehost could take some time to improve this. Otherwise I am very happy with your services.

Thanks, dreck

most other software, especially something that looks like outlook is going to cost quite a bit in licensing fees. For an individual, it's not that expensive. You can always find something that you like and then install it yourself.

But, it would be a great gesture from bluehost if they could do this for its users. Their has to be free software that bluehost wouldn't have to pay for that could be installed automatically for its users? Maybe?
Or at least tutorial that could help users install something better?

For that matter do you have any pointers, or can recommend a software to install?

Thanks, dreck

That Roundcube looks far better than Horde or Squirrel. Well BH ever provide this to us without us having to manually set it up? That would be great!

there once was a post talking about a new webmail client that they were working on. I don't know of the status, I think it got pushed back for more urgent issues.

You might want to inquire support about this.

Doesn't look like it can support more than one email under one account? Is that true?

Either way I will install it tomar & give it a whirl.

Thanks, dreck

I agree, I don't care for Horde & Squirrel Mail. I like using Webmail features because I work off of several different computers and Webmail is an excellent way of checking my emails. Problem with Horde and Squirrel is that they lack many user friendly features as Web base email v/s Outlook and Yahoo. Plus Horde and Squirrel Mail using within Bluehost are block by many company firewalls not allow to access.

I use Yahoo as my external email service and would prefer to have Bluehost host a Webmail server like this or preferable like Outlook Webmail. I like to see it as an add-on service for a price, because not everyone uses Webmail and the cost would be not need for them monthly. I assume the cost factor to implementing one is not cheap for the hosting services, so maybe a poll should be offer by Bluehost and a price range to see if the majority would want the service. Included in the service I like it to have a virus protection service and all the perks as a Yahoo account would be.

Some would say just use Yahoo and add the paid service. Yes you can and as I stated I do use Yahoo, but I like to keep all my eggs in one nest sort of speaking. Bluehost is a good hosting but no different than many others as for providing a hosting package, the price and service makes all the different to the customers. I just find that Bluehost offers good honest services and a committed team to work with its customers. Not all will be happy…that’s what makes us all unique. We all have our on quirks in life and will always want more and some will always complain about anything. Posting good threads like this go a lot future in making the different. So Dreck I with you on this one.

What I want for Christmas is a GOOD EMAIL SERVICE.

Bluehost still the best in my book and I plan on staying email or not.

Try Google apps for your domain https://www.google.com/a/

2 gig of storage per user, plus the easy to use Gmail interface for webmail. Have been using it for 2 months and been very happy with it and the spam filtering it provides.

I am very happy with bluehost too, this wouldn't make a difference of staying or leaving for me either. But, it would be a very nice addition.

I agree with Darkbeer. Google Aps for Domain is easily the best webmail. It has some deficiencies but it is under development.

Bluehost email is hopeless for anything over minimal quantity and pathetic for attachment size - and the spam is atrocious.

With Google you can filter out the spam. If you use a client such as Outlook you don't see any of the spam - it stays with Google!

Thanks for the advice Darkbeer. I also have been looking at Gmail. I have been using Yahoo for so long and actually like the interface but the spam is a killer as well as the ads. I will setup an account with Gmial and see how it goes. Its is becoming popular and I see continue improvements. I still have hopes that Bluehost will dump Horde & Squirrel Mail and add a better service. But like dreck stated;

I am very happy with bluehost too, this wouldn't make a difference of staying or leaving for me either. But, it would be a very nice addition.

I just installed RoundCube Webmail on two of my domains. It was pretty easy to install and is, so far, much more user friendly than Horde or Squirrel mail. Plus it just looks clean and simple.

Here's the instructions if anyone is interested: http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=302

Well i installed roundcube. It is a very nice & clean client. I have not figured out how to edit the config file to support multi emails. I went to their forum & did a search. I found a few posts, but all say the only to do is forward. Forwarding is just not the type of app i am looking for. :(

I just installed RoundCube Webmail to test it out myself. I was just wondering what about virus and spam protection? Does our Bluehost account filter with the setting we set up in the Cpanel?

I used roundcube for a while and suffered high cpu warnings constantly, and with only 2 users using it.

not sure what the problem was, poorly written software or slacking server
**me looks at bluehost  **

I use google hosted and couldn't be happier. of course with google hosted you will never have a problem with downtime or slowness, and if you do then the net probably has bigger problems :)

In testing roundcube I find the installing is straight forward, but the program itself is extremely basic. One thing I did notice is that when you delete an email and purge it from the trash using roundcube it did not remove it from the server.

I will either stick with Yahoo or play more with Gmial. Both offer more perks.

Thanks for everyones advice.

Dreck you sign up for Google App for your website or just Gmail account for your self. If you sign up for Google app for your domain you have to follow Google instructions for changing the Mail Exchange (MX) records. And if you did the change may take up to 72 hours.

I was under the impression i had to sign up for google apps to retrieve my pop mail accounts mail? Maybe i have set this up all wrong?

And those of you that use it, do you change your mx records, or do you use google as just an client?

Dreck, yes if you sign up for Googles App for Domain you have to have the MX records pointed to them. They have instructions on how to do this in your cpanel at Googles where you setup your account.

I set up a thread for Open Discussion of Email Providers. Click here (http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=3894)to join the discussion.

Well i dont want to do this at this time. I am not sure hwat i want to do at this point, so id hate to screw up & lose some mail.

I do have a question, does google offer a way to download backups? This might make me feel alittle bit better about trying it out.

Thanks for your help, & I will check out the other thread.
