View Full Version : Bluehost.com servers on spam blacklists?

My wife and I both use a bluehost.com box to send email to each other (we each have our own domain) and I've noticed that the spam assassin software scores our messages to each other as almost spam. Here's the header:

X-Spam-Checker-Version: SpamAssassin 3.1.0 (2005-09-13) on box79.bluehost.com
X-Spam-Level: ***
X-Spam-Status: No, score=3.7 required=5.0 tests=AWL,HTML_MESSAGE, RCVD_IN_NJABL_DUL,RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL autolearn=no version=3.1.0

I'm no spam assassin pro but I believe the "RCVD_IN_NJABL_DUL" and "RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL" flags indicate that this message was received from a server on known spam blacklists.

Can someone help me either confirm that this is the case (and then help me find out why our server is blacklisted) or help me understand exactly what these two spam assassin flags mean?

Searching through my spam folder I've found that "RCVD_IN_SORBS_DUL" means "RBL: SORBS: sent directly from dynamic IP address [*.*.*.* listed in dnsbl.sorbs.net]" and is worth 2.0 points. (This is odd since we're on a cable modem with an IP address that has changed once in 2 years when we moved.)

"RCVD_IN_NJABL_DUL" means "RBL: NJABL: dialup sender did non-local SMTP [*.*.*.* listed in combined.njabl.org]" and is worth 1.9 points.

Neither appear to have anything to do with the bluehost.com server being on any blacklist. Sorry for the firedrill. :)

Enter your domain at http://www.dnsstuff.com/ to do a Spam database lookup. It checks many of the major blacklists. Look for rows with red backgrounds. My domain hosted with BH has shown a red once, but BH must have responded quickly because I got the all clear when I looked a few days later.
