View Full Version : favicon persistence???

I had created a test version of a favicon.ico for my site. It worked great. The problem is that it seems to have gotten locked in somewhere so that even though I replaced the test version, it still shows up when I open the site with firefox.
I have cleared the cache, deleted the bookmark, re-started windows, done a search and destroy for any old copies lying about, and everything else I can think of... Any ideas?

This is not a Bluehost problem as the same thing occurs when I access my development site on a local apache server.

My setup:
win XP Pro
Firefox 1.5.0.1

Thanks in advance

I use FireFox, and apparently found out that FireFox does weird things with the icons. I get that every once in a while. In my case, after I restarted FireFox and/or cleared the cache, it went away.

You know, actually, a weird is happening, at least to me. I have "zeroed out" my favicon.ico to be just a blank file. It seems that BH is overwritting with their favicon.ico, as well as adding this GIF file to my /public_html, "nav-commenters.gif". Or is it just me? Let me know when you guys and gals get a chance...

TIA
Sherwin

On the sites that I have designated an Icon, they stay and the bluehost one has not come back

The change that made the real difference apparently had something to do with the icon file itself. A kind sole edited my file in photoshop, changing my white background to tranparent, and that did the trick.

Eventually I'll probably try to do some editing in GIMP to see if I can't achieve the same results.
