What's really funny is that I was signing up I actually thought that the guy in front of the group is the leader of this company. Stock photography, uh? I thought so after I saw Celera's page.

to me it feels so fake for a company to put stock photography up like that. It gives a false sence of who you are talking to.

I don't know - I look at those Earthlink and AOL ads and think: They can't all look that polished there. Or maybe it's just that Matt and the gang are one ugly bunch. :D
Not that I'm changing my avatar anytime soon!

Let's see if the BlueHost crew can some how find the free time to get their digital cameras out & photograph each other (on the rare dress up day).
Just say no to stock images!

I can't help but think if you look closely at the stock image on the about us page: http://www.bluehost.com/about_us.html it looks like two of the employees photoshoped their way into the background. A clean cut girl with two guys in baseball caps in the background. They just don't fit.
A buddy and myself were laughing and talking about it the other. It's only funnier now to us that their is a thread started on the subject. They just don't look like they thy belong their at all.

okay, you may not know this (how could you not?) but almost every website, advertising agency, company and/or business on the internet uses stock photography. All advertising is, even in print, the use and reuse of stock photography.
the only difference is that some companies pay for an exclusive license, meaning nobody else may use it.
Bluehost have never been good for image consiousness, their pages and banners are a bit tackier than the competition, but I take that to mean that they're more interested in keeping our sites up and running.

John, now I have seen that icon/avatar. Is it possible at Mystics? Or it might be generic. :)

i realize most companies and websites use stock photography, and i am fine with that.
but its when you make it look like 'this is our team' 'call this support person' is the people you are doing business with, and its not...its just so fake.

I'm all for stock photos, non-flashy pages and straight-forward "what it is"... who cares as long as everything works well? Save on overhead!

Posers!
Actually, that's a derogatory term for somebody who represents themselves falsely as something they are not.

Alot of web developers will subscribe to huge photobases such as a stock photography site where you can pay a monthly fee (or per image) for professional pictures. (such as http://www.istockphoto.com) When I do web design I often purchase photos from here. Though if I answer a phone call and they ask me "Who's the ugly guy on the front of the Bluehost site", I may tell them its me for fun
