I know that when I set up OS Commerce, this was a common error that I needed to fix by going in and turning the Register Globals on in all of my php.ini files. Okay--fast forward several months. I have made no changes to my account. All of a sudden, my OS Commerce site says they are off. I have looked at the files and they all seem to be on....People can't go to my online store now and I don't know how to fix it. Here is a cut and paste of the error message:
Server Requirement Error: register_globals is disabled in your PHP configuration. This can be enabled in your php.ini configuration file or in the .htaccess file in your catalog directory.
Any suggestions?:(
UPDATE: I went ahead and put the line needed in all the php.ini files like I did before back in August, but still no luck. Here is the line I added--again:
register_globals = On

If you have a copy of php.ini in each of the osC directories and you are still getting the error, I would suggest you apply the register_globals patch - it isn't too tricky, and it will resolve the issue once and for all. :)

I apologize, but I want to make sure I don't make things worse---
Are these the correct steps:
1-Go to Contributions and locate the Register Globals patch
2-Download patch
3-Go to Read me File
4-Copy and paste directions will be there and I just follow them?
Sorry, I am new to contributions. I have made a couple of attempts at installing them in the past, but only mildly successful.

Don't apologise... always better to clarify things before you start. Yes, that is how it should work... readme file should have full instructions... but it doesn't always happen.
Most contributions have changed files that you can just slot into a vanilla install. Rather than try to follow the manual copy and paste instructions, I find it easier to compare the changed files with mine in Winmerge (http://winmerge.org/) and copy across the changes that are relevant to the contribution.
Feel free to PM/e-mail if you run into any problems.

Okay, this is strange--I had to leave and deal with the problem I was having with the Register Globals and go Christmas shopping---yeah, I know, should have started sooner---anyway, it wasn't working when I left. Now, out of the blue, it is working just fine! How can that be?

LOL... best not to ask... just be grateful you don't have to start messing about with coding over Christmas... :p

I haven't touched it since it started working again "out of the blue (host)"
so I was surprised that it started giving me the error again!
Okay, I guess I will attempt to use the contribution now....wish me luck!

I downloaded the patch, and now the Admin side works fine, but the Catalog is still giving that error message.
Is the php.ini file the same in both the admin and catalog files? In otherwords, can I just copy and past that file in every location?

Yes, it is and you can... :)

It still didn't work. I have requested a fresh copy of the php.ini file from Bluehost....
I seem to recall deleting it once a long time ago and having to get a copy from this forum, but not sure if it is correct, so thought I would get a fresh one, turn Register Globals off as instructed to by the contribution and go from there.....
Odd, that I have deleted all php.ini files except in my root and the Admin side of OS Commerce is still working.....
