Hi,
I am completely new to web hosting and administrating.
I have chosen to use joomla,(some one said it was easy!)

I would like to change the sloarflare banner to something more suitable for my website. is there an easy way?

Someone suggested find the image file, and overwriting with a new image of the same file name, I have done this using the java ftp manager but the site banner doesnt change??

Can anyone help

Hey Mike,

I'd recommend you take a look at the Joomla forums: http://forum.joomla.org

There should be stuff there for beginners :) - especially something like a "Quick Start Guide"

Here is the User Manual which I'd also highly recommend: http://help.joomla.org/images/User_manual/user_manual_v1%200%201_10%2021%2006.pdf

Also, use the Joomla forums if you have any additional problems. There is a massive and helpful community there :)

Cheers,
David

Hi Mike,

The solarflare header is header_short.jpg. You should be able to create another jpg and name is header_short and upload it. The dimensions are 635 by 150 px

When replacing anything with another file of the same name remember to clear your browser cache, or the old one will remain locally even if you have replaced it on the server.

The Joomla community is brilliant. I've been a Joomla user and beta tester for over 6 months now and know a lot about Joomla, setting it up, configuring it, installing third party components, modules and mambots, editing and creating new templates etc...

Most Joomla developers for third party components and modules will help you our when contacted within a few hours and most normally get bug fixes and updates out as soon as you report a bug found in their code.

Joomla Ist and 3rd party support is some of the best of any open source community I have ever been a part of, and is only matched by the development community of vBulletin boards.

The quickest way to edit the look of your Joomla based site is through the Joomla admin panel. You can edit the template and directly edit the html and css files for each template you have installed. The header banner is linked in the template's css file, so if you did want to link to a differently named header file, or double check the link is correct, then you can do so in the css file.

Joomla can seem quite complicated and overwhelming for a beginner, but after a few hours of use the way it works all starts to make sense and it will suddenly seem a lot more logical. The best way to learn Joomla is to use it and experiment with everything it can do. But a test site, rather than a live site, is preferred for extensive testing in case you do something that messes up the site.

BTW, if you need some help or advice on any Joomla related questions feel free to ask me. I would be happy to help. Samre goes for anyone else.

I just wanted to say thanks to Harrison for raising my hopes around learning joomla. I confess I don't put a lot of time into my efforts to learn so I guess I get what I put into it but it is good to know there is light at the end of the tunnel.

I think in the back of my mind I am really waiting until 1.5 is out and stable and accessable through fantastico here on BlueHost. If I knew what I was doing I would probably be learning it right now but I have no idea how to install a test site from my computer.

I've been looking at Joomia for a little while too - browsing their main site and reading up a little on it. I just posted a topic in this forum about all the CMS programs that Bluehost offers bcz like you, I'm completely new to all this too and want to find out more before I jump in.

For those of us in such a state, these support forums are unbeatable. Thankfully, there are people such as Harrison that make such great efforts to "show us the way". Whatever you do decide to install, just try make certain that you can get the support you think you will require.

Bluehost doesn't typically support their 3rd party installs (such as Joomia) but on occasion, someone like Harrison will come to your rescue. Better though that you browse the support forums represented by the software you're considering to install before installing it, just to ensure that they'll be there for you if, and when you need it.

Best of luck!

Peter
