View Full Version : Mailman Discussion
I would like to discuss Mailman with other Bluehost users. I have two problems. I cannot access the stored archives(files) via my website, and the links to attachments generated in the archives now do a line rap and prevent my users from clicking the links. The second problem did not occur until Mar 13th this year and BH denies they did anything.
After two weeks of trying to get even an answer from BH support I received a message telling me mailman would go away and i needed to install Dada mail. After a week of evenings getting the install correct, I discover dada is not even close to mailman. It takes tens of modules to provide a lot less functionality.
BH support tells me they will pull Mailman. I want to keep it, but I need to figure out the problems above. If anyone else is running a discussion group and using mailman, please contact me.
Thanks
OH! Mailman going away! I'm a new subscriber and just starting to set up some mailing lists. So far, they are great. The lists are one of the reasons that I signed up with Bluehost. I guess I'd better stop creating lists. Is BH's plan to do away with lists posted somewhere?
Have no answers for the archive access. I created a bit of junk email that went into my archive as I was testing the list. I wanted to delete it and could not find a way. Asked Techsupport and they said there is no way to delete archive messages from the gui. I don't have shell access. I don't really want the archives so I'm not archiving anything now.

Since it's now September and your post came out a few months ago, I would assume that BH is keeping Mailman. It works for me, so I'd hate to lose it.

I too like mailman, the features that for me and my users make it essential are:
It can run both announce and discussion lists
Users can subscribe to digests
Many more features with the installation of plugins
According to what I have read on the dadamail site it does look like a good list manager but does not provide a digest option. As I have list subscribers that use this function it would stop me from implementing it.
The hourly email list limit is a serious problem for me (even if I were to increase to 500). Any decent size mail list is simply not going to function well as a discussion list with these sorts of limitations. Particularly when when the CP panel says you can run 100 mail lists and 2,500 mail accounts. These 'limitations' are simply not realistic with a 500 per hour mail limit.
My mail lists are a very important component to the way I run my domain which makes me think that I will need to find another host that will allow me to run them unless a work around to this can be found.
Thanks,
Steve C

I had the archives turned on when I first started using Mailman, then I could not figure out how I could delete some email in the archive. I had a few test emails in the archive. I asked bluehost and the answer was that I couldn't. Enough of that, I turned off archiving immediately. I sure don't want a bunch of old emails using up my disk quotas without the ability to delete them.
I thought that they may be accessible from the root of my account via FTP, but they are not there.
If anybody knows of a way to access the old archived emails to delete them, let me (and this forum) know.
Me too. One of the reasons I signed up with bluehost is mailman. It works fine for my small lists.
Thanks

There isn't a whole lot of mailman posts or discussion in the forum, but I am hoping some one may have an idea how to correct this problem.
I have a mailing list that has stopped taking e-mail subscribe requests. I cannot find the text configuration files (I do have shell access) and there is nothing indicated in the web interface that would stop this from working... There is no problem with receiving posts or digests. (Contrary to some of the previous posts, I have no problems with digest or with access to the archives.)
As far as removing test posts, it is better to edit the archive file, and keep the headers, but remove the content... this will keep index numbers and links the same throughout.
Plus, people tend to understand seeing some test posts to a new mailing list.
Thank you in advance for any direction on this as I have enough in there I would like to not have to restart the mailman list. (I found the problem, I was dropping the mails as they were coming in, and it is available via the web interface.)
