View Full Version : If/When RoR 1.1?
Ruby On Rails 1.1 has just been released according to this Rails Weblog entry: http://weblog.rubyonrails.org/articles/2006/03/28/rails-1-1-rjs-active-record-respond_to-integration-tests-and-500-other-things
I says that there are significant improvements in the handling of Javascript and Ajax:D which is very important (for me at least).
Will Bluehost be updating to this newest release? If so when? If not why?
Thanks!

Give us a week and we should have all the servers upgraded to 1.1
Thanks,
Matt

You guys are great!
BTW, Heads up to folks that already have apps. You might check out http://www.ruby-forum.com/forum/3. There are a number of posts about avoiding or recovering from problems caused by going from 1.0 to 1.1.
thanks!... back to the RoR tutorials (now on Rails 1.1 :) )

Wonderful. But...
I'm trying to chase down a rails error (the only link on the railstest page fails). The development log has some seemingly relevant traceback info. It is clearly 1.1 stuff that's being executed. But I can't find those directories. They are (unlike the 1.0 versions) completely hidden and inaccessible. Kind of hard to make any progress.
Thanks for any hints on how to proceed.

When I do a gem list --local on box 36 I still only see rails at version 1.0.0 - should this not have updated itself also?

Rails 1.1 is installed on box36:
rails (1.1.0, 1.0.0)
Web-application framework with template engine, control-flow layer,
and ORM.
I have also just verified that all the servers have Rails 1.1 installed on them.

Any comment on my note above (#8), Steve?

Maybe I'm doing something wrong here...
If I SSH to box 36 and type
rails -v
I get back
Rails 1.0.0
Am I doing something wrong, do I need to set something up in my environment? Could this be why Richard cannot view the directories?

Wow, now you make me show my ignorance.
I have built and installed ruby, and rails, and the fastcgi apache module, but as for actually USING them....
I'll send an email to Rando and see if he has any ideas.
Apparently fixes several bugs including a Prototype memory leak in IE. Recommended for all users (except Typo) from what I've read.

I'm giving up on RoR on Bluehost.
The simplest possible demo fails (railstest has one rails link which does not work), the log indicates that scripts are being executed (1.1.0) that are invisible to me (and thus impossible to debug), rails -v reports a different version (1.0.0).
A mess.

I'm giving up on RoR on Bluehost.
Have you opened a ticket with support? Without knowing your account, or any particulars, it is difficult to debug your issue.

There really is no need to give up!
I placed a ticket with Support regarding the is it v1.0 or v1.1 issue. The reply was that it is still version 1.0 but they are upgrading to v1.1 at the moment.
Rando and Steve, your comments about the upgrade having been done already may have been a bit premature...
But richardI'm giving up on RoR on Bluehost.
There really is no need to give up!! As I explained you can create a full RoR's app even though that first link does not work. Me and others have created full applications very easily - in fact without doing ANYTHING on the server APART from running the rails appname command. Give producing an app a try!
Yes, Bluehost needs to be a bit more clear about RoR which was my aim with this post http://www.bluehostforum.com/showthread.php?t=438. I also think they need to be a little less hasty about announcing upgrades but we all make mistakes!
