I've uploaded the catalog folder but when i go to mysitenameblahblah.com/catalog/install I get the 404 page not found error. I was also sure to upload the catalog files with FTP permissions set to 755 and I switched from binary to ascii.
Any ideas?

Make sure you know exactly where the install executable file is and what it's named. I just had that happen to me tonight. I had to type in the full url and then index.php after the final slash... don't know why.
Check via your ftp client and be sure you know the exact path to the install file and try that. Hopefully that's all it is.

Thanks for the reply Schelly :) I tried "install.php" after the last slash but this time it just lead me to connection timed out page.
I have double checked the paths once again and they are exactly how they should be.. I see the php install and index files and evetrything where they should be in my ftp program.

I don't know what the deal is.... Cant think of anything.

I am not an expert by any means, but did you install this "manually" or did you use Fantastico? I had problems when I tried to simply download from OS Commerce and follow their instructions from their Forum (which also has a step by step page if you haven't already been there)
But, something had gone wrong with the install that way. When I tried to install with Fantastico, it worked perfectly!!! Also, lots faster!
Good luck!:)

Just a random thought, and I sure don't mean to insult you -- but is the domain name in the URL "mysite.com"? If so... is that your domain name?
Sorry, I'm just grasping at straws here...

Did you check that all of the files had uploaded correctly? The most common explanation for this error is files getting lost or corrupted during the ftp process (the second most common is the files having been accidentally uploaded outside of public_html). You might try navigating to the file in File Manager and opening it from there.
