Hi, I opened a ticket at the help desk about this on Saturday & so far have received no replies. Sending email to support@bluehost.com results in an auto-reply saying that you can't open a ticket via email; use the helpdesk. (mutter).

Sometime on Thursday, Jan 4, around 3:00pm, my Spam Assassin configuration disappeared, to be replaced by the default configuration.

I have all spam redirected to a special email box & it's very clear when the disappearance happened as all of a sudden the header modifications disappear.

I did not delete my configuration, so what happened?

I am frustrated because I can't get anyone at Blue Host to answer my ticket. Is there anybody there??

Do you make regular backups of your files from cPanel. If so, you may be able to restore it.

Not knowingly, no. Does bluehost have backups? My configuration was quite customized. (I didn't know I could take backups...??)

However, just as important are these questions:
1) what happened to the configuration?

2) why is nobody answering my helpdesk ticket?

Yes bluehost does have auto backups if you don't do them.

If you have SSH access you can access the backed files from SFTP (this also includes a monthly backup). If not you can from cPanel.

cPanel >> Backup >> Click daily or weekly.

Depending on when the file got messed up, you might have to use the weekly backup.

I don't know why the file got reset. I'd say contact BH, but if you're not getting any response from them, then I guess that doesn't help. Have you tried calling or live chat? I guess just keep trying until you get someone.

I found the Backup open in Cpanel & it says "Note: You cannot restore these backups, they can only be restored by your administrator." So I guess I'm stuck waiting for someone at BH to answer me.

I'll try the live chat next.

Thanks.

That's only if you want to restore the entire site. If you only want restore a couple of files you can do it.

Download the file. You will have to have a program that will open up .tar files. Untimate Zip will do it and every thing else (Download (http://www.flash-systems.de/download/uz31us/uzsetup.exe)).

Untar it. You might get some errors while it's working, but just ignore them.

Fine the '.spamassassin' folder and then copy the file(s) back to your server. I am not sure what files you will need to copy. I'd just copy over every file and see if that fixes it.

Thanks -- I downloaded the file as you suggested & have looked in every directory in the .tar. I cannot find a .spamassassin directory.

Any idea where it might be hiding?

In other news, I did the Live Chat thing & that person escalated my ticket & made it "high" priority. That was over 3 hours ago & I've still heard nothing at all from BH support.

the directory should be folder right above the public_html folder.

I guess if it's not there, then it must not have gotten backup or was over written by another backup.
