I have paid for a dedicated server to use fsockopen. as my site is a internet radio website i need to pull info from it using that function however it is not connecting. Its like the port number is being blocked by a firewall.
Weird thing is that the script I use did work without any problems up until just before Christmas, nothing was changed in the script.
I sent a support ticket on Tuesday morning (UK time) and they haven't replied :( has anyone else had this problem? Are they always this slow?

I'm assuming you mean dedicated IP and not dedicated server, as BH does not offer dedicated servers.
Yeah this is something that support is going to have to look into. I wouldn't use the ticketing system. They have too many tickets to respond to and it will just take a long time.
Best thing to do would be call them, but if you are unwilling/can't then use live chat and keep trying until you get someone. It usually takes a couple of tries.

You can get a dedicated server thru BH. A friend of mine (infinitiFX.org) was offered one when he complained about the CPU issues.

No, We wasn't offered a dedicated server, He was probably offered their somewhat new servers that have fewer people on them and allow you to use more CPU usage. Their High CPU load servers.
Bluehost DOES NOT provide dedicated servers.

fsockopen does work for connecting to any url that is on port 80. If its using another port it won't work. Bluehost has a firewall for shared ip customers, so they can track bandwidth effectively. If you need to connect to ports other than 80, then this requires you buy a dedicated ip, which costs an additional $30.00 per year. You can email support along with the last 4 digits of your on file credit card and request the dedicated ip, or call at 888-401-4678.

Hmmmm... thanks for the info. But please allow me to rephrase that question. Since you also use vBulletin here, I want to install a modification called Check E-Mail Before Registration. It checks that the user supplied e-mail address is a real address. Here is the blurb re: this product:
# Does This Host Support fsockopen? - A PHP fsockopen call is used to try and connect to the remote mail servers. Some systems may not support or block these calls. With the value set to Yes, the connection attempts will timeout. GoDaddy's Shared Hosting is an example of a hosting provider that blocks outbound connection attempts.
With this value set to no, the system will try to look up the MX records, but will not attempt to connect to each mail server.
So I guess this is what I am asking: Do I need to turn this setting No?

Alright, thanks for the response - I was sort of afraid I was going to have to do that since BH's default port for fsockopen is 80 but email default to 25. But I was hoping that someone here had followed this path before me.
Thanks again.
