I signed up with Bluehost after reading a number of web hosting reviews in Nov 06. I migrated my two sites from another web host which i was unhappy with and all seemed to go well.

As from Dec 06 until now i have on going network performance issues where it takes 10/15 seconds for the sites to load plus when i raise a ticket about the issue i dont get a response for about 4/5 hours. Also when you check the server load its going throught the roof. What is happening at bluehost. From the reviews i was expecting a fast and stable server environment but thats not the case. I am getting very, very frustrated with Bluehost do you guys have any plans to resolve these issues ?
thanks:

my advice would be to have your site moved to a different server.
i am here now since 3 month and so far it is alright - i had uptime about 90%, not counting the DoS attack that was going on for 4 days.

i would definetly always call via phone - i have a ticket not opened since the 6th of january ....

other than that i cannot advice anything else. for the money i pay here, i am alright - if the online business develops a little i might get another host for 15$ a month, which will probably increase uptime and load time.
btw, my sites load quite fast, but they are all optimized for fast load too (<200kb)

check the load times and response times per command in DOS:
tracert domainname.com

The only problems I have seen so far since moving my site here in Nov06 are the 3-1/2 hours that the whole of Bluehost (including all hosted sites and bluehost itself) during the data centre move a few days ago and occassional dropouts on ns2.bluehost.com

Presumably the data centre move situation was a one off and wont happen again for a long time.

The nameserver problem should get resolved as soon as the support staff identify why that server keeps dropping out and fix it. O course adding a third nameserver would also help since the minimum requirement is 2, maximum 7, and the recommended number is 3 to 5. Few hosting services seem to apply more than the absolute minimum number of nameservers though even though it is less than optimal so you wouldn't necessarily do any better going elsewhere.

All the other problems I have seen reported appear to be server specific and fortunately none of those have affected the server that my site is on.

Yes, as a long time web developer using Bluehost, I simply don't see all the problems that these people are ranting about.

I have seen a few problems here and there, but nothing that doesn't get fixed in an hour or so. Overall, I'm very happy here and so are my clients.

I have two more new clients, and I'm going to move them over to Bluehost this week.

I would have to agree with bobdog.

I agree with felgall and bobdog. I have been with Bluehost from almost the start. I have never noticed any of the problems others are speaking of. I have NEVER seen CPU errors and that's because all of my PHP code and MySQL quires are all optimized.

There have been problems here and there, but guess what, all hosts are going to have problems. The good thing about Bluehost is that it gets fixed relatively fast and you usually don't see that problem ever happening again.

All in all, bluehost is by far the best. I am not saying that because they pay me to or I work for them, because I do not get paid or work at Bluehost. I say that because they really are one of the better hosts.

This is a good discussion.

Now, let me make it clear that I do not work for Bluehost. I am a free lance web developer. This is how I pay my bills, this is how I put food on the table.

If I had even ONE client not happy, I would move their site to another host. But all my clients are happy campers.

I am fairly new to all this, but for what it's worth I am pretty happy here. Notice some occasional hiccups but they pass in good time for the most part...

No one is perfect, and if they claim they are then I definitely wouldn't trust them...

I've been with bluehost for..ugh...heck I can't remember...its been that long. When I first signed up, everything was hunky dory, and I was quite impressed. I've previously used three or four other hosts (never go to 1and1.com - its a nightmare!) so I feel I'm pretty established.
I've love , and have encouraged many people to host their websites with blue host (the ones in my signature are just about 1/4 of my or my friends websites here). But, it seems they have gotten too big for their britches for now. I work for a dot com that hosts websites and we have experienced this problem in our own datacenter (back bone migrations, location migrations, IP migrations, server upgrades, etc), and its a rough business and can be very tricky even with the most fool-proof plan.
I'm sticking with bluehost simply because they really seem to be a provider that cares. However, if my email problems don't get better, I will have to at *least* move my email to another server. I am paying for the upgraded spam support - and thats great, but if it takes 3 or 4 hours for an email to be delivered? thats worthless. Some of the errors I have seen on my mail servers (when sending to my hosted account from work):

Sorry you've had a less than perfect experience at BH. I moved all 8 of my domains from here in the last year from another bargain host, and have been thrilled with the support.

You get what you pay for, and for the $ BH is going beyond what others in their proce range have done for me in the past.

I moved one domain here on 01/09 and added a new domain to it. While the web server seems to be fine I've had issues with POP email two nights in a row.

Last night it appears that i was unable to authenticate via POP3 yet webmail was working successfully, now tonight my mail server is completely unavailable (but the web sites once a gain load fine).

I moved from another hosting company because I had similiar issues to this that compounded into a complete lack of support and inability to access my website (and the administration for the website) completely.

I am hoping that these problems are only temporary, since moving on Tuesday I'm now 1/3 @ night for email server availability.

i am happy to have my site here - however, last week i moved the email to godaddy again. this way, i am still able to mail, even if bluehost is under DoS or whatever - that was horrible, not being able to mail.
only bad thing is the send limit on godaddy - that was better here - but uh well :)

Hello. Just my $.02 but I've had pretty good service from BlueHost for the last 3/4ths of a year. I tried four other hosting companies and for the price, this is the best yet.

My only lackluster sales support was this evening at 11 PM and I just went into my control panel and answered my own questions there or by searching here in this forum.

I've been recommending BlueHost since my second month here and I hope they continue to give good service.

I'm too happy with the hosting, but the constantly 500 International Server Error is driving my crazy :D

I have been using bluehost now for just under a year. I have found the service to be the best I have ever had. Granted, I have only had to contact them 3 times, but each time, when I hung up that phone I had a smile on my face and I knew exactly what was going on.
I dont use my sites for business, and I dont use the email, so I am not feeling all the pain that some people are having. The worst I have seen was a day or so of downtime (500 internal error) just to find out it was my fault anyways...and they were happy to fix the problem for me!

For the second time this week I have POP access problems and cannot access my site at all.
The rest of the 'net is fine (along with my non-Bluehosted emails accounts)

The response to my initial ticket was dire.. it still had not been acknowledged 3 hours after the deadline, by which time the situation was resolved.

I'm an hour into the second occurrence and am loathe to open another ticket since the last one didn't get looked at until too late.

I have to say that, despite how this post may seem, I have been extremely happy with Bluehost before this week and have absolutely no desire to change hosts again in the foreseeable future.

Please Bluehost... sort it out :(

I can't say much about Bluehost because I am very new here. They have good reviews and have a great price. I am waiting for Janurary 12 (Saturday) when my domain name gets switched from Homestead to Bluehost. At Homestead I don't ever recall the website ever being down for any length of time and I was there for 4 years, but at a price of $18 a month the site better not have any downtime. Homestead has a great Sitebuilder program but the price is a killer.

Going from $18 a month to $6.95 a month is why I am here at least until I can figure out how to use the cpanel here....................lol :o  ;)

Well, if you have any cpanel questions, this would be the plce to ask. Big change going from homestead to a real host.

btw if you do have problems...you can get a *general* idea of how busy your website is, by the number of hosts on it:
http://gotoofast.com/bluebox.htm
domains != websites but they can increase load on a server by email traffice for example

Well....
The Due time for the ticket to be dealt with has LONG gone.... by about 10hours if I've workd out the time differences correctly.
And nobody has even acknowledged it.

I STILL have no site or email access.

Disgusted.

I have been satisfied as well. I have a slow connection as is (56k dial up) and my site is always loading fast. Might have been a one time problem.
