Hi all

I´m going to jump right into it :o

i´m bought a domain and webspace from bluehost yesterday.. and got a confirmation e-mail from them right away ! and in there it said this :
"Since you ordered a new domain with your hosting purchase, you may need to wait 1 or 2 days for the domain to be active."

Ok i can live with that but i go and use the fantastico installation of wordpress (2.0.1) everything goes smooth, i get the e-mail back with the info and proced to try and start working on the side but i get Error 500 when i try post or fidle around with plugins.

This is the error ?*

500 Server Error
A misconfiguration on the server caused a hiccup. Check the server logs, fix the problem, then try again. URL: http://xxxxx.net/press/wp-admin/post.php

so what i´m wondering  will i have to wait these 3 days until i can do anything with the wordpress install :)

hope to hear from someone

i would... just to see if 500 would disappear.

You're not alone!!!! I tried it so many times PLUS I even tried to install it manually. Nothing works! ARgh!

angelletrieste

Now it gets better:

After the manual install, I can see my blog at http://angelletrieste.com/blog only.

http://www.angelletrieste.com/blog gives me the 500 error msg.

I can't access the admin page at all, with or without www. in front of the domain name.

ACK! This is soooo frustrating. And the BlueHost site says 24/7 support, but when I called, it says it's closed! What's up with that?

It looks to me like a lot of the required files did not get added, but I am not getting the 500 error message.

What's frustrating is that these aren't the files I can install on my own. :(

angelletrieste, I clicked on both links you had above and both brought me to a page with a header image and the text of your posts, but no template. Is what you have now from a prior Wordpress install? Were you trying to upgrade? Have I really missed the mark? :)

i have this problem too.

i want to export some data from my mysql database. i create a folder "export" with all write permission (777). But when i run this php script, i got "500 Server Error".

500 Server Error
A misconfiguration on the server caused a hiccup. Check the server logs, fix the problem, then try again. URL: http://www.mydomain.com/export/export.php

1) 24/7 phone support starts tomarrow (april 3rd). I will investigate why the main site already says that; possible a CVS update run too early.

2) those errors listed should not happen, possibly a corrupt library on the host system. It should now be fixed. (call support if you get any more of those, specifically the glibc errors)

Jim,

The Wordpress install was perfectly working and up to date when I moved it to BlueHost and changed config.php file to point to the right db. :(

Not happy.

Per Support, glibc is broken on box 104, which is where my stuff is. The earliest they can fix it is Monday morning....sux.

Steve,

Mine's still broken. I can view the blog, but cannot access WP-admin section because I get 500 server error.

It's true for both my own manually installed WordPress as well as my Fantastico installed one -- view the main blog page, but no access to admin page.

This is EXTREMELY frustrating. :( I've paid for the service starting April 1, but now it's April 3 where I am, and my blog's been down since then. Although I've had issues with my previous hosting companies, but nothing compares to this....

Get somebody who knows what they're doing to install it for you.

Basil,

If you're talking to me, I know what I'm doing as far as WordPress is concerned. I've yet to have any problem w/ it until I moved it to BlueHost. The fact that not even Fantastico, which is something that's offered by BlueHsot, can't get it right tells me that it's something on the hosting service's part, not me.

Fixed! :D

Spencer fixed the issue for me. Yay me. I believe it was something w/ the server.

Also I got mine moved to a php5 box. Went smoothly despite my expectation of some downtime.

Happy now. :)

That's the reason of these errors ? I've exactly the same problem with my server (not bluehost)

Hi all,

i researched the same error last night and found a very (too simple) solution.

For my case it does not depend on extensions, Zend Optimizer or things, but only pure PHP code.
There has been a recursion in the PHP code which caused PHP to eat much of the available RAM, then died leaving a couple of this *** glibc *** errors behind and finally leaving a corrupted httpd process behind.
This in turn seemed to cause trouble to the overall httpd results (not sure about that, but I encountered often the problem, that "apache2ctl restart" left all processes freezing and forcing me to kill -9 them)

So - I used wpgallery2 empedded in Wordpress 2.02 and inside wpgallery2 there is a function "guaranteeDirExists" in
guaranteeDirExists "gallery2/modules/core/classes/GalleryUtilities.class".
This functions is being called when writing an item to the cache. Unfortunately the function "guaranteeDirExists" uses the same cache as well internally (no good design :-) and so if you have a wrong cache path you will end up in an endless recursion.

This will be - I am sure - only one example. Finally it seems that endless recursion (so stack overflow) will cause such kind of errors.

For Wordpress anyway it is a good idea to inspect "guaranteeDirExists" function .. any kind of wrong path might cause such kind recursion there.

My guess: don't look for extension or lib revision, search your php code for such kind of bugs..
