I was just checking into installing the live video chat plugin for FlashChat.

Unfortunately, it looks like Flash Media Server / Red5 Server has to be configured to support this.

Is this an option with Blue Host? Is this already configured?

Here is information about installing this plugin:

http://www.tufat.com/docs/audio_video/

I would like to provide video chat at my site.

By the way, so far I have been very happy with Blue Host. The slow response every now and then lately is hopefully just growing pains. Other than that, everything has been great! The services provided are excellent and it's nice to not have a host limit what can be done...the last host wouldn't even allow users to upload photos.

i have flashchat on my server setup, and the chat rooms is working fine, tho i havn't added anymore chat rooms yet.

the down fall for this product is that you have to have root access to install flash media server, and bluehost don't provide that privileges.

i ran into this problem for a while trying to figure it out, until i called them and asked them if they provide root access they said no.

if you still don't believe. download the linux version of flash media server and upload it to your website. i recommend adding it to your root direct.

login through ssh (22)
-----------------------
-cd public_html : this is where i believe you upload the flashmediaserver.tar.gz file
-gunzip flashmediaserver2.tar.gz
-tar -xf flashmediaserver2.tar
-cd FMS_2_0_3_r68_linux
-./installFMS

here is the error i got

ERROR: You must be logged in as the root user to install
the Macromedia Flash Media Server.

-this is when i called bluehost and asked them if they provide root access. and they said no, so i know that we can't install it on the server, therefore they don't support it.

-another thing is if your eager for the software to be installed. i think you should consider your own computer or paying for flash media server support from another web host.

-conclusion to the above statement, there is a file for the flashmedia server that u can configure computer to have remote communications between the flash media server and the webserver. check the following website www.adobe.com

-you can also download a free copy of the developer edition and test it on your computer

Conclusion
-i have Flash Media Server here on my laptop with an unlimited license which means i can have more connections to the FMS Server.

-i would host it for free but my poor laptop don't have that much resources to do that. so what am going to do is buildl my own desktop server. and provide that service for a small fee (what your say guys does 50 dollars a months sounds reasonable).

-your feedback is grately appreciated or email me at webmaster@xtrahype.com

Hey - you are smart. Can I ask a question, somewhat related mostly not.

There is cool website called blibBack / blibBomb where people can upload webcam shots and have them posted on social networks. I really like it. For my website, I'd like to have somewaht similar functionality. But it's just for posting on my website, not hotlinking all over. I want to create a audio/video messaging system.

Do you have wisdom to explain what technology is involved. It appears blibBomb uses flash. I'd prefer free gpl stuff, or other free stuff, but a minor small price is possible. Look forward to your wisdom on this.

just PM you. Would you email. Thanks. I'm curious to learn more about what's involved technically to do the messaging. (Prefer GPL type stuff)
