Is it possible to change my domain name? I liked mine when I chose it but now id prefer a different one as the current one was just stupid and has nothing to do with the actual site.

TOS states that you can cancel your account, and if you cancel after 3 days you own the domain name. I bet something to do with them not being able to get refund for domain name after 3 days.

Thus, youd have to cancel your account and register another one. And if you canceling within 3 days of sign up you will get 100% of your money back.

You cannot change the domain name after your register it. Once it's registered, it's your's for as long as you pay for it. When you get a free domain with a new account, the domain name is still yours. If you choose to chancel the account, the domain is still yours and you are required to pay for it. Domains are really really really cheap. Less than $10 a year. I think that everyone can afford that. :)

The answer to your question is "YES" you can "change" your domain name.

But as stated above, you don't really "change" it. You create a new domain and transfer your site to the new domain.

Or just buy a new domain and add it as an addon domain.

Yes. The domain was bought in your name. The whois may say bluehost, but it was purchased with your name. If you decide to cancel your account, you may take the domain with you. Bluehost may charge you a $10 fee (not an official answer, check with support) and you may have to pay an extension fee to transfer it somewhere else if you'd like. But yes the domain is yours.

So from now on I own my domain name even after I cancel my service with bluehost?Until it expires, that is. Domain registration isn't forever - it has to be renewed. If you're on the BH two-year prepaid plan, your domain registration is also good for two years, even if you leave BH. But if you don't pay to renew the registration, it will be up for grabs again.

Thank god for that, I thought I was stuck with it forever :) So is there a way for me to buy a new domain and use it too access the files i currently have or do I have to buy the whole package again?

No, you can buy a new domain and then you can add it to the account. use "add-on" if you want to make it a new site or use "parked' to point it to the same site as the default domain.

You can buy domains anywhere. Bluehost sells them for $10 per year. That's the easiest way because you wouldn't have to change the name servers.

I do not not know anything about joomia but I do know you can use mod_rewrite rules to redirect queries from mydomain.com to yourdomain.com. You can use cPanel or write the code directly into your .htaccess file in your root.
