View Full Version : renamed .htaccess

Bluehost recently moved my account to a new box. Not sure if this is related to the move, but I think it is.

I never edited the .htaccess file that I can remember, but the redirect information seems to be in there. It looks like it gets written to based on using the redirects in Control Panel?

Anyway, my main domain's root folder is redirected to a subfolder. I didn't want to mess with .htaccess since I'm not familiar with it. I renamed it and put an index file back in. Is there some downside to turning off .htaccess?

My main site is a subdomain in my account. I didn't see any references to it in the .htaccess so I'm not as worried about it.

Anything I should be worried about?

This should not be a problem unless you wish to do any redirects, etc. - my root .htaccess file has little more than that. Only downside might be that anything that you call in a root .htaccess file would propogate into any subdirectories, like where your subdomain would be. But it sounds like you don't have this issue so worry not! ;)

Thanks RedSox9.

That 2004 was some season. I'll never forget it.
