allo!
has anyone ever had an issue with IE6 not displaying text until it's hilighted? if you navigate to http://www.page1ink.net/es/commercial.php using IE6 the first two paragraphs and the second heading don't display unless you select the text or scroll the page. it's very strange.. in Firefox it displays fine, as it does in IE5.
anyone else ever have this issue or know of a way to solve it?

so I found the problem. apparently IE (PC) has this peculiar way of rendering floated text that makes it disappear. the following CSS class can be applied to any ailing elements and they'll come right back to life:
/* hides from IE5-mac \*/
* html .fixme {height: 1%;}
the name of this hack is the "Holly Hack," in case you're interested in reading more.

Glad you solved the mystery! And thanks for posting your solution for the next person who comes along and has the same problem.

I have IE 7 beta 2 and the problem does not exist. Try upgrading your browser...if you don't mind using a beta. (I have had no problems whatsoever with it.)

This is never a solution to a display issue on a web site, unless the person is using a very outdated browser. Your site should work for anyone using nearly every browser (even old ones).

there is allegedly a patch for IE6, but a lot of people apparently don't have it =/
more to the point, IE sucks. get Firefox (http://www.firefox.com)!
IE6 might sucks compared to firefox, but IE7 owns firefox in many ways!
plus there's also some script that "will not work" on firefox also, but will work fine on IE. so to me they both have their goods and bads.

lol that's because firefox is based on the w3c standards and IE will accept a lot of crap it's not supposed to.

oh, but isn't it better to accept all kind of html/java code?
like me for example, i like to make custom color scroll bar which apperently doesn't work on firefox. which really pist me off something. and that's just one of the few cool codes that doesn't work.
now im not saying firefox sucks. i myself use it 60% of the time. it just sometime pist me off with all the script blocking stuff.
i do find it better than IE6. however wih IE7, i'd have to say IE7 is better and it's just on beta version now but i haven't had any problems yet.

Back in the '90s we had browser wars, where each browser offered it's own proprietary hacks that wouldn't work in other browser. I think Javascript actually started out that way. But web developers got very tired of having to test and see what browser was being used and testing different code for different browsers.
In an ideal world, you just write standard HTML (or XHTML) and standard CSS and your site looks great in anybody's browser. I've read the even Microsoft has seen the light and that IE7b2 goes a long way toward that goal.

<m$hate>then again, one of the key features of Vista was going to be a relational database filesystem, but..... </m$hate>
sorry, couldn't hold it in any longer. ^_^
