Hi, I am not yet a Bluehost account holder but I plan to be one by this friday.

I am currently thinking about switching over to your hosting services because of the features you have and the good reviews about your tech support.

anyway, before joining I wanted to ask a few questions and see if they could be answered.

Before I start I think that I would be best to explain that I run a fan site for a game series known as Rockman (or Megaman in the US). And that I host fan made music videos done with footage from the game and anime series, also known as AMVs (Anime Music Videos).

I have my site currently hosted on another service which will remain unknown because I doubt anyone here cares who they are.

Anyway my problem with them is that last thursday they suspended my site.
I asked them why it was suspended and they e-mailed me back with I am writing today in regards to your site with [BLANK]. We are
terminating the account because of copy righted information and scripts that
are slowing down our servers.and so I asked them if they could tell me what the copyrighted material was so that I may remove it from the site and to tell me which scripts were slowing do their servers. After a days worth of waiting, they replied with

The issue is with the htdocs/files/ directory which had a ton of
concurrent downloads yesterday when we turned your site off. We didn't say
anything about scripts, so we don't know had told you this. There appears
to be other copyrighted material in other directories, e.g.
htdocs/music/. If you can put tighter controls on who can download, then that
would be fine.

So I removed the "htdocs/music/" driectory and asked my hosting service if they could tell me what exactly in the "htdocs/files/" directory is copyrighted material because that folder has all my downloads in it(AMVs, Game Clips / Commercials etc.) they replied with.

It is difficult to find whether the files are legal or
not. You will need to research to judge whether these files are legal or
not - the best way is to ask the person who put them on your computer
where the files came from.

Please remove the files which are illigal and put tighter
controls on who can download, so that you can avoid this problem in the
future. According to our engineers htdocs/files/ directory had a huge
amount of concurrent downloads.

The thing that is pissing me off is the fact that I don't think there is any "copyrighted material" in the htdocs/files/ directory because they can't tell me what exactly it is that they say is copyrighted. And that the real reason they suspended my account is for the only thing they keep asking me to do, which is put tighter controls on who can download my files, which implies that I was going over my bandwidth limit when I haven't.

So my questions to you would be. If I end up moving my site over here and you guys did find some "copyrighted material" on my site. You guys would tell me what is it so that I could remove it right? Because I'm going freaken crazy trying to figure out what in the world these guys could be talking about.

Because I am willing to work with these guys to remove the files and fix the issues, but these guys aren't even throwing me a bone. They tell me I have copyrighted material, but when I ask them what it was so that I can remove it they tell me to basically go take a guess.

So like I said in the start of the topic, I plan on buying a account with bluehost this friday and moving my site over here because not only is the hosting package better then my current service. I also heard the Tech Support was better, which I hope it is.

This is a user-to-user forum, so I'm not sure who you're referring to when you say, "you guys." There's no one from BH regularly participating in these forums.

What I can tell you is that Bluehost prohibits you from storing copyrighted material on their servers unless you, personally, are the holder of that copyright. If you store all your own downloads, BH has no way of telling whether you have downloaded this material legally or not, and no way of telling whether you're letting others download the same material in violation of the copyright. They don't have the time or resources to figure that out.

Also, BH as with any hoster, has the right to suspend any account that they feel is involved in illegal activity and copyright infringement.

Well yes, I understand that if I am hosting copyrighted material that my site hoster has the right to suspend my account.

My problem is that I want to remove the "copyrighted material" because I want to run a site that is within the law but I have no idea what it could be which is why I asked my current hoster if they could tell me what exactly it was that they found.

From what I know, Anime Music Videos are legal to host and most Anime companies see them as free advertisement for their product and really don't care as long as the creator of said AMV dose not try to profit from it.

also, I didn't know this was just a user-to-user. I thought maybe one of the BH staff members could answer my questions ^.^"

Anyway, I'll see how things go with my current hoster and try to find and remove the "copyrighted material" (if I can ever find it) so that I can move over here :P because what I've heard about bluehost has impressed me enough to move from my current hoster to this one ^.^

Thanks for the help guys.

I had a website I had to move off from blue host servers. They said the website violated the and user agreement for particular game I play. To me it's insane because I have the and user licensing agreement have read it hundreds of times, cannot find any inkling aware violates agreement. But that did not stop them from suspending my account. They would not tell me why, but it was not even the copyright holder who complained.

Not being a pirate or hacker, but valuing my freedom. I have hosted that site in Canada. Not that Canada is the choice for everyone. I personally started my own ISP using a fiber backbone and later this summer will have all my accounts hosted there.
