Just trying to find out about these survey tools, comparatively speaking. If you've tried them out, opted for one and not the other, etc., I'd appreciate hearing about it. [I have spent a bit of time w/ surveymonkey and am less than impressed, and they're not particularly cheap.]

OK, no responses, so I installed the one that looked best to me. This is PHP Surveyor version 0.99.

The installation went fine via fantastico.

The application does what I think I want it to do. It has various skins for design purposes, and some custom stuff there too. I didn't care much about that and just left it at default. It flows through exactly as you want, i.e. answer one way and go down one path, answer the other, go down another, etc.

The reporting stuff looks to be fine at this early stage. It is just manipulating a sql db after all, so will be easy to do whatever you want. Easy to import/export sql files.

The user manual was important to have open when putting things together.

The hardest part for me was figuring out the order of questions, what conditions to set, what to ask, what not to ask if they answer x way instead of y, etc. Very straightforward inductive reasoning, i.e. I'm not good at that ;) . But it looks at least as good as surveymonkey, and it's not $20 a month...

If anyone's interested in my little first survey, see

NB this is extremely elementary. But you can tinker w/ the different paths depending on answers if you want and see the kind of flexibility here.

sorry, only just saw the new forum now...

phpsurveyor was also my choice on another (lesser) cpanel host. it worked perfectly for my survey needs, produced a great report, and wasn't hard to set up. (that doesn't mean it's easy - you still have to think about it - and phpsurveyor makes changes relatively easy.)

Thanks m'rat-- glad to hear it's working for you. What's your site?

I had trouble and today posted a question regarding this software. I was able to install and set up a survey that would work fine, however, I want the survey to be sent to email recipients. Something causes the email sending to fail - an "unable to connect" error. Any of you used this feature and got it to work? Do I need to manually configure something? Email addresses in .csv format are fine.
