Just curious -- Last week I set up a new POP e-mail account, and in less than 10 minutes I had spam, offering me pirated software, addressed to the new POP username. The spam also included the new username in its subject line. Now, I understand how spam works, and how the addresses are obtained through scraping of web pages, dictionary attacks, etc. But how can a spammer come up with my address and send me an e-mail in less than 10 minutes? It seems to me that the spammer must have been notified in some way, which makes me wonder: might BH have a virus that feeds this information to spammers? Or is this just some colossal coincidence?

Sometime I recieve spam because those MFers just use all names known to mankind and send mails out to mayor internet providers hoping that a few % are lucky ones.
It would be really strange if you made up an adress like 11o73kls2386dksks@yourdomain.com and you would instandly receive spam.
With an adress like yourdomain@yourdomain.com I wouldn't be suprised.

Any existing domain will be getting thousands of spam emails a day being sent to all sorts of non-existant email accounts on that domain. The spammer simply hopes that some of them actually will exist or that the domain is silly enough to have a catch-all email account enabled. If you create a new email account that has an actual person's name or a job title as the username then chances are that there have been spammers sending to that address for years in the hope that you would eventually create it.
