I can't find the public .html file on my ftp page. I am SO NEW to website publishing that it doesn't surprise me. I've downloaded my files with the appropriate att and img files to their respective files on FTP but I can't find that stupid public .html file. I've looked in all the files before I uploaded and afterwards. So my website has the cpanel login screen because I can't delete the thing. And doubtful right now that the files that I uploaded went to the right folders since there is not a public file. Oh, please help me!

its not public .html its public_html
its the root directory of where you put your files. If your having trouble using ftp you can always use the file manager in cpanel.
To remove the default page that comes with your server log into cpanel go to file manager go into public_html and you'll see a file called default.html either chnage this file or delete it and replace it with a file called index.html

That helped to use file manager. I am still having a bit of trouble...
There a file with the title of www; the description says www
File Type: broken symbolic link to `public_html'
which I am assuming is what I need?
Do I need to fix this or just delete it? I hate to make it harder on myself since I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing anyway.

not to sure what you mean
File Type: broken symbolic link to `public_html'
the directory www is what is seen by the public looking at your server ie. www.yourdomain.com
All files you put in pubic_html will also be in the www folder
what exacly are you trying to do?

There's not a file anywhere with public_html on my lists of files in any folders or by itself, or anything. I have a cpanel_datastore file (no public_html file there), .trash file (nothing in it), an att file (my att file from my website program is there, now),an img file(again with the files I created from my website program are there, now), .contactemail file (no public_html file there), .lastlogin file (no public_html file there), ayso420.web file (which was something that my website program created) and then that www file with nothing in it, but that will have things in it when I figure out where to put my files. So here's what's going on... I need to get my website files into the public_html folder. My cheapo website program (intellyweb or something like that) wouldn't work on uploading through its program and FTP couldn't do it either. However, when I went to file manager, I was able to physically transfer files. I never found the public_html file before I manually uploaded my files and was wondering where I need to look for that file, since it needs to have my files in it. I thought that maybe the www thing was supposed to be the public_html file. Is it actually called public_html? Or do I put my files into the www one?

www is a symbolic link (alias if you will) to the public_html folder. If you do not have a public_html folder try creating one and using it.

Still working on it. I had someone who was supposed to have done the website, but it never got done. I'm just wondering if the files got messed up and she gave up? Anyhow, I will keep working on it and losing sleep until it comes together. You all gave me some great advice and I surely appreciate it.
