About istallation phpBB

Hi!

I don`t have shell access to my web site and I do not know how to install phpBB forums on your hosting. Please, help me.

You can Install it through the control panel,
1. Log into your account Control panel
2. click Fantastico auto installs
3. Go to discussion boards
4. Click on phpbb2
5. On the right hand side of your screen click New installation
6. Follow the instructions

Make a note of the locations and passwords.

"Fantastico" is an automated installtion program that can be found in your control panel. It "will" install phpBB for you but it always seems to glitch something up when I've used it.

It works better if you do it manually or atleast I've not had any problems. Just use your File Manager to go to the public_html directory, upload the phpBB zip file, click the file then click "extract". Now go to "MySQL Databases" in your control panel and create a MySQL datbase with a user with full privileges. Now just edit the config.php file and add the database info then click install.php follow the cleanup instructions and yer done.

siguie's right... better to do it manually if you can.... and upgrading is a whole lot easier if you know your way around the installation process. The instructions are in the Docs folder of the phpBB2 package.

I have problem again :( When I extracted Zip-fail I found that config.php did`t contain anything. Fail is empty!

That is as it should be... you now need to run the installation file... (path to your phpBB2 folder)/install/install.php ...you will be prompted to enter information about your database etc, and config.php will be automatically populated with that information.

Ye? I have found and started with installation. At the same time I have questions again. My be... I am... idiot, but...

What is "Database Server Hostname / DSN:?

And what is the different between "Database Username" and "Administrator Username" ? Who is "Database Username"?

And where can I find "Database Password". Because when I created my database I was not asked for password for Database.

You are not an idiot... these things take some getting used to.

Ok... you have created your database... now you need to create a username and password for yourself in the "Users" section of the MySQL page. Then in the "Databases" section, add yourself to the database as a user with all privileges.

The hostname is localhost... your database name and username you can copy from the connection strings... and your password is the password you set for yourself in the "Users" section.

Thanks for your help! I did it! I installed forum. But my forum address now is mywebsite.com/phpBB/ but I would like to change it to mywebsite.com/forum/

How can I do it?
