Why do most members have spammy names? Like dxluke (Not an actual member that I know of) Wouldn't be surprised. :D
Is there something I don't know?

There's normally a story behind just about every name. Have heard lots of them. :)
Most people bring over their internet monikers from other, older environments like IRC or UseNet; They tended to have limitations or forced you to have horrid names for other reasons, most of them technical in nature. I have one such ID, but don't use it much anymore.
I also have an account with Second Life, and am known on some IRC channels by my SL name. I've also been referenced in RL meetups by my SL name, which was a bit unnerving but interesting.
In my case, the ID you see here was borne out of my original access into Uru Live Prologue, in Jan 2004. There was this thing about 'You being You,' so I decided to do just that - login as myself. :) Worked out really well actually.

I got this handle ages ago, and it pretty much stuck. I use it for all of the forums I am a member of, unless there is some sort of limitation....
I got mine from being a big car geek...

There's also something to be said for maintaining some anonymity on message boards. You never know when you're going to say something that offends some loony, who then starts stalking you, or trying to hack your website. I wouldn't worry about this forum - it doesn't seem to generate that sort of stuff - but on many forums, staying below the radar is a good idea.
By the way, I retired from the Federal government at the ripe old age of 46. In the common parlance of bureaucrats everywhere, I "took the early out."

I have also wondered about the pseudonames. I assume most people use them because they are somewhat concerned about security. That is, they don't want to be too easily found if they get noticed by a violent psycho, identity thief, or general harasser.
I'm very concerned about security issues and I personally take lots of precautions, so I've considered hiding my name on sites like this also. But I just don't believe that would add any significant real security. I also think using my real name so prominently adds a wee bit of credibility, since I'm not hiding behind a false name.

I'm more accustomed to forums (like the Comcast users' forum) where almost no one uses his or her real name. Not only do they not use their real names as forum IDs, they rarely reveal them in their posts.
I may stupid with being secure. I've used my real name all over. I've never had problems with hackers, stalkers, or psychos but I do have people signing me up for spam through my email address, probably because they dislike me or think it's funny. I keep my email and messenger information more secure than my name. Ha Ha.:D

My handle evolved through several stages of rather horrid nicks, I decided on AstralSin as an admittedly pretentious commentary of sin in some way(i havent totally figured it out but thats what i tell everyone :) On the subject of using your real name or a handle, I like handles. I began my internet careeer in the 90s where your handle was a creative way to represent yourself on the web and there wasn't some ulterior professional motive behind it (no offense). The net is a place to display your mind in a new way and the handle is the key to doing that.

I got my name Dustin because there was 'dust in' my keyboard while I was trying to sign up for my first email account.
The fact that it is also my name is purely coincidental.

I run silentcollision.com, hence the name. Prior to that, it was all my forum, and internet identity names, as well as online gaming name.

If they go through all the trouble to find out where I live just so they can be shot when they walk in the door ... just kidding
I put my real name because this is a lagit site.I use matrix most of the time
what I can't stand is when someone uses a name like (wefquxtidfh) that bugs me.

Mine is because I simply COULD NOT THINK OF ANYTHING ELSE!:o
How terrible is this? I design webpages, logos, print media and more and COULD NOT THINK OF A NAME! So, i decided to use my ebay name and use it everywhere because it's easy to remember.
Can any one guess where I come from?????

That's why I'm Bobdog! The avatar came from a boss I worked for, she sent me photos of her vacation instead of photos for the web. Then proceeded to whine and bitch about the website not being updated. So I took a picture of her fluffy happy doggy, and a picture of her in a kayak, and photoshopped it.
The boss Lady did not think this was funny, and proceeded to write me up and present it in the company meeting for all to see- this is not acceptable.
When the company actually saw what I did and her attitude, the whole room was rolling on the floor laughing at my graphic. The write-up ended in a paper shredder. I dissed the boss so hard, I was a hero.
Thus, bobdog was borne. It became my nick name at the office and the boss hated that sound, like nails on a chalkboard.

I grew in my appreciation of the anonymity provided by those pseudonym handles recently when I googled mine and realized that 16 of the top 20 hits were me! Sheesh. That's not something I planned on.

redsox9 obviously comes from being a diehard Boston Red Sox fan! The number nine also honors Hall of Famer Ted Williams, arguably the greatest hitter ever.
Oh, and I prefer to use the psuedonym in place of my real name only because I can! :p

That, by far, is the funniest "get back at your boss" story I've ever read. Actually, I like the bosses I have now but would loved to have gotten back at a few that I've had in the past. Classic!
