I'm just getting into the web design business and I'm a bit in the dark about setting up an e-Commerce site. Obviously I understand the need for a shopping cart and electronic processing, but what is the best choice for either?
Any help at all is appreciated! =D

I'd go with OS-Commerce (http://oscommerce.com/).

Just my opinion however. :)

Try Zen Cart (http://www.zen-cart.com/modules/frontpage/). Has more features than OS-Commerce from scratch, and it should also be a little faster. Anyway, a hell to get to work properly when you have other systems than the US (I had to get it to work in Scandinavian, multiple currencies and countries) :P

I spent some time yesterday working on mack's ZenCart with him. We couldn't get it to work :( Maybe the install is broken. The Admin login wouldn't work. The other eCommerce thread on here is the result of a day of troubleshooting by we n00bs.

Hmm, works fine for me (and I've done several installations af Zen Cart). However, I haven't installed it through Fantastico. Was you just denied from the admin panel (incorrect login), or did you get an error?

thank you for the input =D

Yeah I was reading up on the three carts offered by Bluehost last night. I got the impression that ZenCart < osCommerce < CubeCart, but that was just from skimming the sites while half asleep <_<

What of this DynamicICPS merchant? has anyone used
them yet?

Yes, we was! Mack installed and tried to login as admin... which just refreshed the screen without even giving him an error. I tried the registration login, and it did the same thing. We went through 3 different support suggestions from forums online, but none seemed to help.

I'm not sure where things stand now. The install was on http://www.mackpcusa.com

If you want to see one in working condition I did. goto www.wikidgear.com

The program is www.cartkeeper.com The support is top notch and the service is fast! Its about 100 dollars but well worth it. It has built in Payment gateways too.

Didn't you get a "You entered the wrong username or password." in the bottom? Have you tried entering a wrong password and see if you get an error there?

No, there was no change in the page displayed at all.

I think he's thrown in the towel. If you want to contact him for more troubleshooting, he mays till be interested.

I'm keeping m eyes out for a system that I can run inside a Joomla or Mambo site for Mom's soap making business :) So that's why I keep sticking my nose into these eCommerce threads.

Edit: Lex, I looooove your stangette site! How cool! I'm a Chevy girl myself. Maybe I need to make a bowtiebabes website. Hm... Crap! It's taken!

I found why the reason was the cause of my errors.

If you install zencart in fantastico it will work fine if you dont redirect your add on domain url.

cause if you redirect the url ..it brings up a red flag on the security that zencart has. I think thats was the issue ...

So i tested a fresh install from zencart site and redirected my url to my addon domain..and it works great..!!

So the verdit i think it was a security issue when u install it thru fantastico way..or if you can code pretty well and fix the security issue you can do that too..but more of a headache i think ..heh

but thanks for everyone trying to get involved and helpin out on this issue..:)

The best shopping cart system I have found is AgoraCart.
It is a pwoerful ecommerce solution that has extreme flexibility and ability to customize the look and feel of the cart.
It is already available in your cpanel.
