Hi everyone,

I just purchased a blue host package and I would like to set up a blog through this package, but I have no clue where or how to get started. If anyone can give me a nudge in the right direction, I would be eternally grateful:) I really don't know very much about how to set this up, but I'm very eager to learn.

Thanking you all in advance for any help you may give me.

Kim

I recommend that you install WordPress. Just click on "Fantastico" from cPanel. This will bring up the Fantastico script installer page. One the left, under "Blogs", click WordPress and some new information will appear in the big white box. Click "New Installation" and follow the instructions (I suggest leaving the directory box blank, this will install wordpress in your public_html directory and make your blog the first thing people see when they go to your site).

At the end of the installation, it will give you an administrative url (www.yoursite.com/wp-admin mos tlikely) where you can log in and write blog posts and also change the look and feel of your blog.

Hope that helps.

No problem, I am a newbie too. What is your blog url?

My url is at http://thinking-outloud.com

But, I'm having a problem viewing my site. I did download the wp and I can get into the site and post a post. But, when I go to view my site it is giving me a message that "this site is parked courteousy of blue host and it's still under construction". Does this mean that bluehost hasn't finished setting it up yet?

Your blog is up as of now!

You can also change the theme of your blog by going into the admin area. I went with the black&orange theme on my site (http://opencivil.com). In the Dashboard, there is an easy to follow procedure for checking out, uploading and selecting a new theme.

Just a sugeestion. It is not difficult to install Wordpress by your self. Before you install via Fantastico go to http://wordpress.org/ and look at the installation instructions. They have two sets, the abbreviated 6 minute install guide and the full step by step click by click intructions. You get to download the latest version for free and it will boost your self esteem if you do it yourself.

There are many posts in this forum critical of Fantastico. There are also threads dealing with Wordpress installs and upgrades all easily searchable.

Thanks for your reply to this, but I have figured out how to install wordpress, now I just have to figure out how to upload the template that I found that I would like to use instead of using the classic one.

Easy enough... just upload the theme files to your wp-content/themes folder. Make sure that the files for the template are in a separate subfolder so that Wordpress will identify it as a theme.
