Hotlink protect acceptions possible?

I have hotlink protect turned on for my domain, but I'm wondering if it's possible to create and lift "outside" of the hotlink protection - a single or multiple subdirectories? Or would I need to purchase a new domain and leave hotlinking off?

It's frustrating, because most of my site will eventually be "image" heavy and I don't want to pay for idiots who want to direct link to my site, but in paying for monthly hosting, I'd like to be able to link back to my own graphics for displaying certain images within forums and groups, etc.

Any help very appreciated.

The protection can be done at a folder level so you can have two folders for images one with it turned on and the other with it turned off. I am not sure if the option in cpanel allows you to set it up from there though, I manually added the entries into the .htaccess files in the folder I wanted to protect.
