As many of you probably already know, bluehost.com cannot be accessed from China of late. Many people have suggested you can get to your control panel from http://www.yoursite.com/cpanel to access your tools.

My issue is I need to register domains and my cpanel domain manager redirects me to http://www.bluehost.com/dm

So I want to see what people think would be the best solution for BlueHost to address this issue.

It's possible that China is trying to block the cheap hosting to keep money in China, which means they could be only interested in blocking the signup page, not the services on the same box as they havn't blocked thsi forum or the CEO blog, just that 1 address.

If it's not listed, please comment any solutions you have.

Please note the Live Chat is also only accessable from bluehost.com, a link should also be added to the cpanel in my opinion.

Usually the reason for China blocking webpages is more content related than money. As some of you may know the issue of Taiwan is a very sensitive subject. China is also concerned about various kinds of religious activity, especially those that enagage in illegal activities or terrorist behavior. They are very anxious to be able to monitor communications over the web. I believe Google and Yahoo - maybe MSN now all have servers in China to handle the traffic for their service in China. This is how they keep the peace.

You can try mirroring...alternate domains...and other options...but my hunch is that you will ultimately either have to stop providing service in China or set up a box in China also.

...this is not what I think is right...it does not express my feelings...but it reflects my observations after living in this country for 8.5 years

Interesting, I just find it strange that only the bluehost.com address doesn't work, all other addresses do. I don't believe the bluehost.com box would be sharing with any other non company sites (public member), Matt's too smart for that I'm sure, so I don't know of any content that would be on the box that holds the bluehost.com website that the Chinese government wouldn't like?

I'm personally leaning on moving the domain manager off the advertising box myself, to a box where there is nothing China would possibly want to block.
