I just got my BlueHost account and I have decided to mirror a few old non-existence sites, they do have copy write notices however their .htaccess files said that crawls could crawl these sites these include things like Google and that wayback machine which almost completely clones the site = http://web.archive.org/web/*/google.com

I don't see any legal problems expecially after reading this thread about copywrited web pages on http://www.archive.org/iathreads/post-view.php?id=109541 .

Do you think there is any problem hosting a few of these so called "mirrored" websites and if someone where to complain however this would be highly unlikely would bluehost just delete the files related to that issue and not the entire site? or would they just suspended the site, tell me about it and unsuspended it once it's all been taken away.

The right way to do it is to make a one or two paragraph excerpt from the site and then link back to the original. If you want to get into the business of mirroring, the right way to do it is to ask permission from the copyright holder. The Internet Archive is unable to do that because of the scale of their operation, but anybody who is doing it on a small scale should ask.

A lot of content creators don't particularly like the Internet Archive and dispute their legal right to mirror copyrighted content without permission.

My problem is that everytime I email anyone invloved or affilated with the website I get nothing back, it's like they all ignore the emails.

and it's not possible for me to link back if the website dosen't exsist.

If they don't respond to legitimate requests to set up a mirror, there's probably noone there who cares about copyright violation, so it might make sense to go ahead. Just make sure you make a good faith effort to contact the original copyright holder.

By the way, how do you mirror a site that doesn't exist? Did you previously acquire the site content somehow? Just curious.

Well Yeah, I copyied it all way back when it was around and now I have more space to make it avaliable.

Als I forgot to point out if it was also around I could proably iFrame it.

and also I'll make sure that if anyone does complain they can contact me personally and I'll take it away straight away :P

I'll also make sure everyone know's it's a mirror and isn't the official site since that's proably what they want, they wouldn't want everyone thinking it's official. Also I'm pretty sure even if they wouldn't mind because it's like free advertising for them in a way and I also know of someone else who has mirrored it so I should hopefully be pretty safe.

and if they were to contact bluehost if it did annoy them hopefully bluehost would only delete the folder it's located in and not the entire site.

personally, i'd say its fine as long as you dont try to take credit for it I dont think they would care. Apparently, a copyright is good for the life of the author plus 70 years...
