Hello, I am a complete and total n00b, so please bear with me.

I run wordpress, and the last couple of wordpress updates I had to do manually because they were security updates and I didn't want to wait until the updates were available through fantastico.

Now, for some reason, fantastico doesn't recognize what version of wordpress I have installed, and my fantastico dashboard says "Only manual upgrade possible."

Is this because I did a manual install? Did I make a mistake in the installation somehow? I would like to be able to use fantastico for future upgrades (like wordpress 2.2), is there any way I can fix this?

thanks!

RE: #2 It's perfectly fine and quite easy to manually upgrade a Fantastico-installed blog. I have seen, though, where Fantastico loses track of the correct version and is unable to perform further upgrades.

My preference is to always install manually because it's quite easy, offers maximum flexibility, and also helps me learn.

yeah, so basically I'm screwed. I was afraid of that.

I have no problem doing a manual upgrade. It's just easier to use fantastico and I'm lazy. But I guess I'll suck it up and do it manually.
