View Full Version : WP on new host resolves to old host! Can't get to wp-admin.

I'm in the process of making the switch to BlueHost, and so far I've installed WP 2.2 and imported my database successfully.
I'd like my WP blog at my current host to remain active under my domain name until I have everything at BlueHost configured properly. Unfortunately I can't login to my wp-admin area at BlueHost because the WP install there resolves back to my domain at my current host!
Is there something I can configure in WP to log in, or do I just have to point my domain to BlueHost and show my blog as a work in progress?
The folks at BlueHost have been extremely helpful but couldn't get me logged in - hope you can help!

Try logging in to phpMyAdmin and open the "wp_options" table and edit the row with option_name 'siteurl'.

as you noticed, when installing wordpress, its adviced to continue when the domain is ready. So, meaning it is attached to yourdomain.com in some way.
after you duplicate the site to Bluehost. make the nameserver change. the migration is minimum downtime. i do this ten of times already. :D

Thanks guys. I actually figured out a way to do what I needed to by defining the address inside my hosts file in Windows. I didn't want the world to see my blog being rebuilt!

I resent being identified as a "Junior Member" who decides that?

Its just a title given by your post count. Once you hit 30 posts you become a Member (by the default settings) and a Senior Member at 100.

Thanks for the explanation. I was kinda kidding, but it's nice to know the details.

Could be worse. For under 30 posts, they could identify a poster as a "Clueless Newbie!" :D

Hi all! I've got the exact same problem. I changed the url in myphpadmin like it says in the knowledgebase (http://helpdesk.bluehost.com/kb/index.php?x=&mod_id=2&id=316) If I go to http://my.ip/~userid/ it goes to the bluehost wordpress. No theme or anything, but the bare hello world.(NOT the problem yet)
But if I go to http://my.ip/~userid/wp-admin
I get 404 not found.
I called tech support and they said to reinstall wordpress and still the same.
Thanks,
Wayne

Nevermind...
The knowledge base said to change the site url to http://xx.xx.etc../~userid/wordpress
I took out the /wordpress
Now it's working. I login as admin etc...
Thanks!
