What's the best way to migrate a dozen email accounts from our former host to bluehost? They're both maildir. This is my plan:

1. Create mail accounts on the new server with the same names/passwords
2. Through ftp, copy everyones folders from the old server to the new server
3. Change the nameserver to point to the IP of the new server

Will this work? Why do the cur tmp and new folders all seem empty?

Thanks, Matt

if you are moving the BH. As i know in cpanel, there is a feature of site backup. everything will be copy, site setting, addon domain and email as well. you can move this backup to BH.

for email only backup. afraid there is no feature for that only. and is good to get advice from BH support directly. send a ticket to BH for help

it looks like the full site backup doesn't copy saved emails and email account information. are you sure? BH says they don't support email migration, so I'm on my own.

He's talking about migrating his mail from another server not at bluehost

There isn't support to copy emails and email addresses from another host to bluehost. You will have to backup your emails and re-add the email address manually.

Thanks for the advice.

My former host uses the same cpanel software, so the backup might work.
However, I plan to do it manually, but i'm not sure if it will work, and if it doesn't, then I won't know what to do.

Wish me luck...
