I've been receiving emails telling me that I need to upgrade my Coppermine gallery from version 1.4.2 to 1.4.10. I've been thinking about doing it a long time ago but I was afraid that if I do, I'm going to lose all the customization that someone did for me. And I can't redo the customization myself because I'm clueless when it comes to PHP coding and programming.

So my question is: "Is it possible to upgrade Coppermine without losing my customization?" Also, I think I've read somewhere around here or at a Coppermine forum that upgrading through Fantastico was a bad idea. Anyone can confirm this?

Thanks in advance! :)

do a full backup first.

if you know which files was customised... backup on these.
once its upgrade to new version of coppermine, these custom files should go back in.

by this you will get the new coppermine, and with the custom page that you have.

if anything goes wrong, you can restore back.

But what if the pages that you customized were changed in the upgrade? Would be hard for a novice to change some code on the upgraded pages if they are now different.

Do you know which files were changed? Can you look at your site and point out what is different than the regular (noncustomized) Coppermine? If you can, then you might be able to get some help here or you may have to hire someone to do file comparisons to find the diff's.

I warn people all the time against modifying the core files in applications because they almost never keep notes on what they did.

Can you post a link to your site?
