Though joomla and mambo are quite similar at the moment, however i'd recommend that you opt one and stick with it as these products are heading in different directions and their differences will eventually be increasing. I'd suggest you go for joomla as it seems to have a larger support community.

As for site suggestions, my suggestion would be http://www.joomlawards.com/ as it features some amazing joomla-based sites. :)

I agree with the above post. I would stick with Joomla of the two.

My joomla site is http://www.sageth.com

Nothing fancy.

I think there is only one answer:

You should use joomla!

http://www.joomla.org/images/logos/Thumbnails/Joomla%20Logo%20Horz%20Color%20Thumbnail.png
... because open source matters!

Joomla is based on Mambo, read the whole story under the official Joomla! website: www.joomla.org

I didn't author the site above that I referenced - how the joomla thing was removed is beyond me. I just know that joomla has been used for that site.

Here's my joomla sites:
http://www.timevsmoney.com
http://www.smartarticles.info
(more coming soon!)

You can remove the joomla link in the footer because it is allowed by Joomla under their license.

You can pretty much remove any footer link for nearly any GPL licensed software, unless the license specifically says not to (which there are scripts that say that, but none that I use).

www.grandessays.com - we also use Joomla. It makes content management very easy, however is sometimes confusing and I think has a couple of glitches (when inserting graphics into a web page)

Kind of wish I had used Wordpress for this project

Hello everyone!

Here is Joomla! 1.5 installed. I am currently incorporating standalone applications into it. Although I have just started this site I am also doing a comparison test with Joomla! 1.3 the latest 1.3.X stable version. The main difference in the two is the refactorized code for better effiency without loading a lot of code that goes unused.

The content management system (CMS) is complex although some resources Im using include a Wrox publication "Professional Joomla by Dan Ramhmal"

>>>>Mine is a joomla site. I've never used Mambo but I doooo like joomla.

This quote is interesting as from what I've found thus far, Joomla developers originally were Mambo developers who packed up and left Mambo to start Joomla releasing their first product in 2005. The new version of Joomla, version 1.5, is described as being the first major departure from Mambo as it was completely rewritten in PHP and goes beyond simple content manangement. Older versions are said to be a whole lot more similar to Mambo than you can believe.

So, for those of you who notice similarities in the two and didn't know the history ... there's your reason for it.

I've just downloaded Joomla 1.5 two days ago and have just finished the install. I'll be looking at templates starting tomorrow on my staging server. New toys are the best toys!

Web 2.0 is the new thing out there. So yeah, this is an interesting package.

Actually Joomla is a "spinoff" from Mambo. Some of the original developers of Mambo were the first developers of Joomla. Personally, I think Joomla has developed far beyond anything that Mambo will ever be able to develop.
As for sites....
Here are a couple that I have developed with Joomla...

http://www.hatboycigarclubint.com
http://www.allamericanwaterrestoration.com
http://www.ichorentertainment.com
http://www.autismdetails.com

And here is a sneak peek at the redesign that I am currently doing on my site. It is not finished, but there is enough there that you can see what I am doing with it.

Actually Mambo and Joomla are full featured CMS applications, Mambo does not use a generator tag (this means Mambo sites are harder to identify as Mambo sites, and also helps with SEO by cutting out clutter too); Mambo sites use page title - site name ordering.

Thanks mhJr!

It is in constant development. All the videos are handled using the Seyret component, and i'm also using the amazing sh404sef which does the cleaning job and the seo friendly urls.

that site looks very good for a Joomla site... usually I see them crowded and basically just bombarded with crap all over the place. Yours is easy to navigate and find the news.

Thanks for looking and for your feedback! I'm trying to keep it simple and in the same time easy to browse. The worst part in joomla is the SEO aspect in my opinion as it's a pain to get your links the way you want. The good part in this respect is sh404sef, which does a perfect job, but with a lot of tweaking and twisting until you get what you want from it.

Never tried Mambo. I started out with Wordpress but once I found Joomla I have never looked back. There is an incredible amount of free extensions available and once you get the hang of it J! is very easy to maintain.

Here is my primary site: http://freeforumsigs.com/ffs6

and a subdomain site that is still in the works: http://templates.freeforumsigs.com
